5 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 19 JUNE 2026 NEWS Queen Mary Malta Campus donates 70 computers to Bishop Conservatory Secondary School in Gozo THE donation forms part of the University's ongoing commit- ment to supporting education and strengthening partnerships within the local community. The computers became availa- ble following a recent upgrade of Queen Mary Malta Campus' IT infrastructure, which intro- duced faster and more advanced systems across its campus in Gozo. Rather than retiring the equip- ment, the University chose to repurpose the computers and donate them to Bishop Con- servatory Secondary School, en- suring they continue to support learning while promoting sus- tainable use of technology. The computers were officially handed over on 15 June 2026, with Queen Mary Malta Cam- pus staff assisting with instal- lation and setup to ensure they could be use by students and teachers. Professor Anthony Warrens, Dean of Queen Mary University of London Malta Campus, said: "At Queen Mary Malta Campus, we are committed not only to providing world-class education but also to making a positive contribution to the communi- ties around us. Following our recent technology upgrade, we recognised an opportunity to extend the life of our equipment while supporting local students and helping strengthen digital learning opportunities in Gozo." On the donation, Marvic Galea, Principal of Bishop Conservato- ry Secondary School, said: "These computers will provide valuable support for both stu- dents and teachers and help us continue to strengthen digital education within our school. We are grateful to Queen Mary Malta Campus for this generous initiative and ongoing collabora- tion." The donation reflects Queen Mary Malta Campus' commit- ment to sustainability, social re- sponsibility and community en- gagement in Gozo, in line with the wider goals of Queen Mary University of London's 2050 Strategy. About Bishop Conservatory Secondary School "BCSS takes pride in being a Catholic school, not only on pa- per but also in practice. Christi- anity is not only a religion to be practiced within certain spaces, but a way of life. This is some- thing we incorporate at our school, both on a policy level but also on a personal level. A main pillar of Christianity is loving one another regardless of background, ability, race, or re- ligion, which is why inclusion is a priority for us. We do our best to ensure there is equity in the processes by which students are accepted at our school. I make use of the word equity because each student has her own special needs and requirements, and we try to ensure we distribute our attention fairly." AVUKATI Għawdex the Gozo Chamber of Advocates has de- clared its full and uncondition- al support for the Chamber of Advocates (Malta), confirming that it will comply with an offi- cial directive issued on 17 June ordering a one-day abstention from court services on Monday 22 June. The directive is part of pro- test action following a judicial protest filed on 15 June con- cerning alleged surveillance, monitoring and recording of privileged communications between lawyers and clients at the Corradino Correctional Facility, which the profession says undermines fundamental legal professional privilege. The Gozo Chamber said the directive will apply in full across Gozo courts and all sittings scheduled for Mon- day, including hearings before courts, tribunals, boards, arbi- tration proceedings and expert access sessions. It added that the same exemp- tions outlined by the Chamber of Advocates will apply, in- cluding urgent criminal mat- ters, bail applications, habeas corpus proceedings and acts expiring on the day. The Chamber of Advocates has instructed all practising lawyers to abstain from attend- ing court sittings on Monday, stating that members of the Bar must not appear in any hearing or participate in proceedings before any court, tribunal or board in Malta or Gozo. It also directed lawyers not to file non urgent documents in court registries and to inform clients that hearings scheduled for 22 June will not be assisted due to the directive.
