10 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 26 JUNE 2026 CULTURE Fall in love with summer SUMMER in Gozo has a rhythm of its own. It is bright, energetic and unmistakably Mediterranean, with long days by the sea, lively village squares, open-air events, coastal adventures and evenings that seem to stretch far beyond sunset. If you are planning your sum- mer 2026 holiday, Gozo is the kind of destination that deserves more than a quick visit. A day trip may offer a glimpse, but summer on the island is best experienced slowly. Stay for a few nights, settle into the pace, and allow time for beaches, boat trips, village feasts, historic sites, local food and spon- taneous stops along the way. Gozo's summer life naturally begins by the sea. The island's coastline offers a beautiful variety of beaches and swimming spots, each with its own character. Ram- la l-Ħamra remains one of the is- land's most iconic beaches, known for its wide stretch of red sand and open views. San Blas, small- er and more secluded, rewards those who make the descent with a quieter, more rugged beach ex- perience. For families, Ħondoq ir-Rummien is a favourite, with clear waters, easy access and a re- laxed summer atmosphere. Those who prefer rocky coves and dramatic scenery will find plenty to explore. Mġarr ix-Xini, set at the end of a narrow gorge, is perfect for swimming, snor- kelling and long lunches by the water. Xlendi Bay combines a seaside village atmosphere with rocky ledges, a small sandy area and beautiful sunset views. Dwe- jra offers something completely different, with its inland sea, dra- matic cliffs and unique geological setting. Wied il-Għasri, reached by steps carved into the rock, is another memorable spot where the sea winds through a narrow valley before meeting a small peb- bly beach. A summer holiday in Gozo is al- so an invitation to get out on the water. Boat trips around the coast reveal views that cannot be fully appreciated from land. From hid- den beaches and sea caves to quiet swimming stops and the blue wa- ters around Comino, a boat trip adds a sense of adventure to any itinerary. Some visitors choose a scheduled tour, while others opt for a private charter with family or friends. Either way, the experience captures one of Gozo's greatest pleasures: being surrounded by sea, sunlight and open views. For those who enjoy a more ac- tive holiday, summer in Gozo of- fers plenty of choice. Snorkelling, paddleboarding, kayaking and jet skiing are popular ways to enjoy the coast, while diving remains one of the island's strongest at- tractions. With a remarkable se- lection of dive sites, Gozo con- tinues to draw both experienced divers and beginners looking to take the plunge for the first time. Beneath the surface, the island reveals another world of caves, reefs, marine life and underwater landscapes. Of course, summer in Gozo is not only about the beach. The island is rich in history, culture and landmarks that deserve time in your holiday plan. Victoria, the island's capital, is a natural start- ing point, with its historic streets, churches, cafés and the impres- sive Cittadella rising above the town.
