7 maltatoday | WEDNESDAY • 1 JULY 2026 CULTURE FOLLOWING the continued popularity of its annual sea tours, Heritage Malta is once again launching two engag- ing itineraries for the summer months. In July and August, the public is invited to experience up close the striking coastlines of Filfla, the Grand Harbour, Ta' Ċenċ, and the Blue Lagoon from a unique perspective at sea. On Sunday 5th and 12th Ju- ly, and Sunday 23rd August, the Filfla–Grand Harbour Day Cruise will depart from Sliema Ferries at 10:00am for a full-day exploration of Malta's southern shores. The route takes in the enigmatic islet of Filfla – once used as a hideout by corsairs and later as a bombing target, today a protected wildlife sanctuary – before heading into the his- toric Grand Harbour, a natural stronghold shaped by millennia of history. A swimming stop in the clear waters of Il-Ħofriet is also included, before returning to Sliema at around 5:00pm. On Sunday 16th August, a morning cruise will offer par- ticipants a chance to breathe in the rugged, unspoilt beauty of the dramatic Ta' Ċenċ coastline in Gozo, and the iconic Blue Lagoon in Comino. The tow- ering cliffs at Ta' Ċenċ, plung- ing steeply into the sea, create one of the most striking coastal panoramas in the Maltese Is- lands. These impressive cliffs are also a protected nature re- serve, home to thriving colonies of two species of shearwater, making the area a site of both geological and ecological signif- icance. The cruise will then sail along- side the island of Comino, of- fering spectacular views of the Blue Lagoon, famed for its crys- tal- clear turquoise waters and one of Malta's most sought-after natural attractions. Participants will depart from Buġibba Jetty at 9:30am and return to the same location by 5:00pm. On the return journey, the boat will stop in the beautiful waters off Santa Maria Bay, pro- viding the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim. A selection of snacks and beverages will be available for purchase on board throughout all cruises. Heritage Malta hitting the seas again this summer with annual tours Filfla, Malta Ta' Cenc, Gozo NAPOLI Club Malta will pres- ent a special exhibition titled A Tribute to a Legend – Maradona, dedicated to Diego Maradona, one of the greatest football play- ers of all time. The exhibition will take place on 4 July 2026, from 10am to 6pm, at Napoli Club Malta. Ad- mission will be free, with an op- tion for a voluntary donation, with all proceeds going towards Puttinu Cares. For the first time in Malta, the public will have the opportunity to see a rare collection of original Maradona memorabilia from the private collection of the Vignati family, represented by Massimo Vignati. The Vignati family had a spe- cial connection with Maradona during his seven years in Naples. Members of the family were close to the Maradona family during that period. The exhibition will include a range of authentic items that be- longed to Maradona, including match jerseys, tracksuits, shoes, and other personal belongings. Each item has its own unique sto- ry. Visitors will also have the op- portunity to meet Massimo Vi- gnati, who will share memories and personal stories that reveal the human side of Maradona — the man beyond the football pitch, including acts of generos- ity and charity that he carried out quietly. In addition to the Maradona collection, the exhibition will al- so include a special section ded- icated to the history of Maltese football, as well as international memorabilia related to well- known teams and players, includ- ing Argentina and Lionel Messi. The event is being seen as a unique opportunity for the pub- lic to discover Diego Maradona's legacy while also contributing to an important charitable cause within the Maltese community.
