5 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 3 JULY 2026 NEWS CONTINUES FROM PAGE 1 According to the authority, eligible works include façade restoration, repair of tradition- al timber apertures, stonework conservation and other inter- ventions approved under estab- lished conservation guidelines. Planning, infrastructure Minis- ter Jonathan Attard said interest in the scheme reflects a growing appreciation for the preservation of Malta's built heritage, adding that the initiative provides own- ers with further opportunities to restore scheduled properties while safeguarding their histori- cal and architectural value. Planning Authority Executive Chairperson Johann Buttigieg said the scheme reinforces the authority's commitment to pro- tecting built heritage beyond UCAs, encouraging property owners to invest in sensitive res- toration of structures that form part of Malta's cultural identity. He said the initiative also aims to ease the financial burden on owners undertaking resto- ration projects while ensuring high-quality conservation stand- ards. Applications must be submit- ted through the Planning Au- thority's online portal, with Ex- pressions of Interest assessed on a first-come, first-served basis until the €1 million allocation is exhausted.
