The Momentum gener- al secretary insists the toxic relationships on full display during the trial cannot be dis- missed as "normal". Camilleri Gambin sits down with me for an interview on the 50th day of the murder tri- al that has also put the coun- try's governance under the spotlight. But for Camilleri Gambin it's not just a question of showing disgust. He tells me his party has the remedies to address Malta's poor governance, in- cluding an electoral proposal to criminalise political fa- vours. Camilleri Gambin rejects the notion that many voters are comfortable with the sta- tus quo because they too can benefit from the lack of gov- ernance at some point or an- other. "I believe many people are angered by the status quo and have the best intentions at heart," he says. On the idea for a social me- dia ban for children, Momen- tum's general secretary re- mains hopeful that big tech companies can be forced to address the harmful aspects of their products. But this, he believes, can only happen if an EU-wide consensus can be found.
