My essentials JOANNE CAMILLERI Musician I am a classical musician—a pianist and harpsichordist, who performs regularly both locally and internationally in a variety of settings, as a soloist, in chamber ensembles, and with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. Alongside my performing career, I also share my love and passion for music with my students. 1. Book 2. Film 3. Internet 4. Music 5. Place I listen to many different classical composers, wheth- er during preparation for my performances and students' programmes or simply to al- leviate the boredom of being stuck in traffic. Each com- poser has a unique story, and every piece carries its own magic. Some favourites in- clude Beethoven's Emperor Concerto and Bach's Parti- ta No. 5, although there are many more. For me, music is about bringing these stories to life and sharing them with others. I also enjoy listen- ing to Libera, whose music brings me peace. IN winter, walking through the countryside, where open fields outweigh res- idences, cranes, cars, and people, to escape from the noise and density of every- day life. I love places like Mtaħleb, surrounded by wide, open landscapes and the quiet rhythm of nature. BODY of Evidence by Pa- tricia Cornwell. I enjoy reading forensic crime stories, and this is a particularly compelling example of the genre. The series is exceptionally well written, with meticulous attention to forensic detail. Beyond the suspense and in- trigue of a well-crafted story, Cornwell also explores the psychological toll that such cases can have on those who dedicate themselves to pur- suing justice. I thoroughly enjoy the many layers of her writing, from the forensic intricacies and gripping plot to the complex emotional and psychological dimen- sions of the characters. DEAD Poets Society. IT explores how an inspiring teacher, John Keating, en- courages his students to chal- lenge convention, think inde- pendently, and discover their own voices. Through his gen- uine connection with them, he builds their confidence and belief in themselves. The film also highlights loyalty and friendship, showing how the students support one an- other while confronting fear, pressure, and expectations imposed by society and their families. A highly recom- mended film. I don't watch television; my main source of information is the internet, where I follow news headlines and keep up with events that interest me. At present, there is under- standably considerable atten- tion surrounding the Daphne Caruana Galizia case, which I have been following quite closely, as I imagine many in Malta have. I am deeply grateful to the journalists who work tirelessly to re- port the news and investigate stories—without their work, many of us would have little insight into what is happen- ing in our society.
