MADAM Justice Edwina Grima spent another full day placing the key strands of evidence back before the nine jurors in Yorgen Fenech's trial, as proceed- ings continue moving to- wards the point when they will eventually retire to de- liberate. The judge's address moved from witness to witness and from one investiga- tive thread to another: the alleged plots to kill Daph- ne Caruana Galizia, pay- ments to the hitmen, Melvin Theuma's role as middle- man, competing accounts involving Keith Schembri, searches at his home and a substantial volume of digital evidence. As the hours wore on, however, the physical toll of the exercise became increasingly visible. From inside the courtroom, several jurors appeared visi- bly tired, at times resting their hands over their faces and seeming to struggle to maintain the same level of attention after hours of con- tinuous evidence review. Grima herself occasionally picked up the pace, skim- ming through clusters of po- lice, forensic and digital-ev- idence witnesses rather than revisiting each testimony at length. Vince Muscat and the alleged 2015 and 2017 plots The day began with the judge continuing her review of Vince Muscat, il-Koħħu's testimony. Muscat had spoken of an alleged 2015 plot to kill Caruana Galizia, in which he named Chris Cardona and David Gatt. According to his account, the plan collapsed after a €50,000 deposit failed to materialise.
