10 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 2 OCTOBER 2026 CULTURE Don Bosco Oratory to stage The Prince of Egypt musical in Gozo THE Don Bosco Oratory The- atre in Victoria, Gozo, is set to stage The Prince of Egypt in No- vember, marking the first time the musical is being produced in Malta and Gozo. The production, based on the biblical story of Moses and the Exodus, will feature songs in- cluding When You Believe and Deliver Us. The story follows Moses and Ramses, who are raised together as brothers in the Egyptian royal household before discovering a secret that sets them on differ- ent paths. While Ramses is des- tined to become Pharaoh, Moses is called upon to lead his people to freedom. The Don Bosco Oratory said its theatre is being transformed into an Ancient Egyptian setting for the production, which follows a series of theatrical productions staged by the organisation. The musical will be performed at the Don Bosco Oratory Thea- tre in Victoria on November 13, 14, 15, 20 and 21, 2026. Beyond What Drifts Us Apart (BWDUA), curated by Elyse Tonna, runs from October 5 to November 1 and brings together four artists-in-residence: Bet- tina Hutschek, Julian Micallef, Martina Georgina and Sébastien Schnyder. The project examines less- er-known narratives embedded in the environments surround- ing Malta's historic coastal tow- ers, focusing on how these sites have evolved as their original military and colonial functions have faded. This year's project centres on Tal-Qortin, a coastal area in Marsalforn that includes agri- cultural land used for grazing, private fields, a scrapyard and a recreational area developed on a rehabilitated landfill site. Organisers said the absence of a standing tower at Tal-Qortin is central to the artists' approach, with the remains and uncertain locations of collapsed structures raising questions about territo- rial boundaries, changes in land use and the legacy of defence, communication and waste. The project adopts a post-an- thropocentric perspective, fo- cusing on climate justice, bio- diversity and the relationship between human and non-human communities. The residency will officially launch on October 10 between 6pm and 9pm at the BWDUA studio in Rabat, Gozo. The project was developed by Tonna as a multi-year research and residency initiative exam- ining the less dominant stories associated with Malta's historic coastal landscapes. The Tal-Qortin site will serve as the main location for this year's project, while the resi- dency studio is located in Rabat, Gozo. This will be the first time The Prince of Egypt will be staged in Gozo. The musical will be from 13 to 21 November 2026
