INTERVIEW
LABOUR deputy leader and
MEP Alex Agius Saliba was
"shocked" by the verdict in the
Yorgen Fenech trial, but still
stresses caution on discussions
surrounding the case.
He sits down with me after a
summer of major developments
surrounding the journalist's
murder, as well on the eve of a
new political season.
Agius Saliba cites the assas-
sinated journalist's family in
voicing his support towards the
country's institutions.
With Finance Minister Clyde
Caruana sowing doubt on
whether one of Labour's main
pledges, the super bonus, will be
implemented in Budget 2027,
Agius Saliba insists the govern-
ment will have the time to put
it into action in forthcoming
budgets.
He also defends the govern-
ment's policies on subsidies,
calling them an investment in
the people and Malta's econo-
my.
Turning to defence, Agius Sal-
iba insists the European Union's
strategy is misguided in want-
ing to increase spending, stating
the bloc faces issues of afforda-
bility and energy which could
be worse impacted if focus re-
mains on military capability.
He concludes by announcing
he will be contesting the 2029
MEP election.
