Power cuts hit
parts of Gozo
on Thursday
morning
SEVERAL parts of Gozo
were affected by a power
cut on Thursday morning
as electricity supply was dis-
rupted across the islands.
Enemalta said electricity
was progressively restored to
affected areas, with technical
teams working to bring the
remaining areas back online.
The company later said
the widespread outage was
caused by human error dur-
ing work on a circuit break-
er at the Magħtab Terminal
Station in Malta. This trig-
gered the electricity system's
automatic protection mech-
anism, which is designed to
prevent more serious dam-
age to the national grid.
The incident also caused
the regasification plant to
shut down temporarily, al-
though Enemalta said stand-
by generation was quickly
brought online.
Gozo has experienced sev-
eral major electricity disrup-
tions in recent months, in-
cluding widespread outages
during the summer caused
by faults in high-voltage
feeders supplying the island.
Enemalta said engineers
and technicians remained
deployed at key sites while
monitoring the electricity
network and restoring nor-
mal supply.
The company later said the widespread outage was caused by human error during work on a circuit breaker at the Maghtab
Terminal Station in Malta
