THE two major parties are virtually
level in MaltaToday's voting inten-
tions survey as abstention weakens
the Labour Party's standing, four
months after the general election.
The survey puts Labour at 48.2%,
the PN at 48% and other parties at
3.8%.
This is a major narrowing from
the result recorded at the May 2026
general election when 51.8% voted
for the PL and 44.7% for the PN—a
7.1-point lead for Labour.
The October survey shows the La-
bour-PN gap narrowing to just 0.2
points. That movement, however,
does not appear to be primarily driv-
en by a direct transfer of Labour vot-
ers to the PN.
Crucially, while the election result
was based on a turnout of 87.4%, the
survey implies a much lower turnout
of 76%.
The 0.2-point difference between
the two parties falls well within the
survey's margin of error of ±3.4 per-
centage points. The estimated sup-
port ranges from 44.8% to 51.6% for
the PL and from 44.6% to 51.4% for
the PN, a statistical dead heat.
