8 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 16 OCTOBER 2026 CULTURE Gozo library to host workshops on seeds and growing plants The Gozo Central Public Library will host a series of four sessions in November to help participants learn about seeds, germination and growing plants THE Gozo Central Public Library will host a series of four sessions in November to help participants learn about seeds, germination and growing plants. The sessions will take place on 7, 14, 21 and 28 November, start- ing at 10.30am. Participants will learn about the different stages of plant growth, from planting a seed to the development of a young plant. The workshops will also ex- plore what can be grown locally, how seeds can be preserved and shared, and the importance of passing on knowledge about agri- culture and food production. The initiative forms part of Gozo's bid for the European Re- gion of Gastronomy, which aims to promote local food, agricultur- al traditions and food education. The project is being organised in collaboration with the Gozo Regional Council, the Gozo Cen- tral Public Library, the National Literacy Agency, the Grow 10 Trees Project, and the Research and Advisory Services Direc- torate within the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Supply. The sessions will be held at the Gozo Central Public Library. For further information, interested participants can contact events- gozo.library@gov.mt. A previous talk held at the Gozo General Public Library Two public lectures this week to kick- start Il-Hagar's events season THE season of public talks at Il- Ħaġar Museum starts Wednes- day, 14 October, at 8pm with pianist Francis Camilleri's Part II of his Beethoven200 series of lecture-recitals. In this lecture-recital, Camilleri focuses on one of Beethoven's most famous works, the Sonata in C-sharp minor, quasi una fan- tasia, more commonly known as the Moonlight Sonata. Despite its popularity, this work is per- haps the most misunderstood of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas, mainly due to its misleading ti- tle, Moonlight. Francis will reveal the intricate details behind this work and how Beethoven's musical intentions differ widely from the metaphor- ical image suggested by the title. This event will take place at the Aula Mgr Giuseppe Farrugia, at the back of St George's Basilica, a stone's throw from Il-Ħaġar. On Saturday 17 October at 11am, the Saturday morning series returns to Il-Ħaġar with University of Malta academic Daniel Vella's talk, There's No Place Like Home: Dwelling in Digital Game Worlds. Digital games give us access to fantasti- cal 'other worlds', landscapes to escape into and explore. Increasingly, though, we can also come to feel 'at home' in these other worlds and to ex- perience a sense of dwelling in them. This talk will focus on representations of home and dwelling across a range of con- temporary digital games, and will make comparisons with representations of domesticity in art, as well as drawing on the philosophy of space and archi- tecture, particularly the work of Edward S. Casey and Christian Norberg-Schulz, to ask: how can we feel at home in digital game worlds? Both events are free, but pre-registration is encouraged by sending an email to events@ heartofgozo.org.
