SPINOLA Terraces celebrated its tenth anniversary on Thurs- day 8 October with an evening at Carob Tree attended by over 150 guests. Among them were tenants, residents and repre- sentatives of St Julian's Parish and the local council, together with the contractors and con- sultants who helped build the development. Formerly known as Spino- la Park, the development sits beside St Julian's Parish Church and brings together offices, shops, a supermarket, a food court, apartments and a 450-space car park. Over the past decade it has become a dai- ly meeting point for the people who work, live and spend time in the area. Sustainability has shaped the project from the start, and Spinola Terraces is the only development locally to hold BREEAM In Use certification, an international benchmark that assesses how a building performs in operation. Natural ventilation, water reuse, heat recovery and planted terraces are all part of the design. The same thinking extends to the neighbourhood around it. Public lifts link Lapsi Street and the car park to the church, pedestrian routes connect the village to the parish, and the Parish Hall forms part of a community offer that also in- cludes childcare, a fitness cen- tre and a children's play area. On the night, guests were welcomed with a timeline of the project and archive pho- tography while an anniversary film featuring the developers, the parish and local residents played on screens. In his keynote, Managing Di- rector Mark DeMicoli thanked the founding team, tenants and community partners who have shaped Spinola Terraces over ten years. We wanted this place to sit comfortably beside the church and the square and give some- thing back to St Julian's. Our BREEAM In Use certification further confirms how well the building is run, and that dis- cipline is now part of how we work, he said. About Spinola Terraces Spinola Terraces is a BREEAM In Use certified mixed-use de- velopment in St Julian's, Mal- ta, comprising offices, retail, a supermarket, food court, resi- dential apartments and an un- derground car park. Designed with community engagement at its core, it introduced public pedestrian links between the village and the Parish Church. Its low terraced profile, exten- sive planting and environmen- tal measures, including natural ventilation, water reuse and heat recovery, respond to both its urban setting and the land- scape. 7 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 18 OCTOBER 2026 COMMERCIAL Spinola Terraces marks 10 years in St Julian's APS Bank to present first VSME- aligned sustainability report ON Thursday, 15 October 2026, APS Bank has published its first Sustainabil- ity Report and present its sustainability journey during an online Sustainability Market Briefing, that place from 14:00 to 15:00 CET.
