Nature Notebook DO you have a knack for fixing things? Can you repair a bicycle, sew clothes, or fix appliances and furniture? Friends of the Earth Malta is looking for skilled volunteers for our community Repair Café! Together with Valletta Contemporary, we're bringing people together to repair, reuse, and extend the life of everyday objects, helping reduce waste. We're looking for volunteers who can repair bikes, clothes, textiles, small appliances, books, furniture, shoes, bags, watches, toys, kitchenware, and more! You don't need to be a professional. Practical experience, patience, and a willingness to share your skills are what matter. Volunteers should ideally bring their own tools and help with setting up and dismantling the event. Plain Tiger NO, this isn't the kind of tiger that stalks large deer and wild boar in the Siberian taiga. The animal here is a butterfly and there's cer- tainly nothing plain about it – indeed this amber-and-black beau- ty is one of the largest and most stunning butterflies that visit our land. The plain tiger (M. danaws) occurs more or less every year but in very small numbers, and breeding records are rare and irregular. It's a great migrant, though, and some years we get a few sightings, usually in autumn – I spotted one just last week at Għadira nature reserve. They are often seen gracing autumn-flowering shrubs like golden samphire and sticky fleabane for a quick nectar power drink. 5 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 1 NOVEMBER 2026 ALMANAC Victor Falzon, Call for Repair Café Volunteers
