7 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 1 NOVEMBER 2026 COMMERCIAL Holiday collection Chanel CHANEL HOLIDAY MAKE- UP COLLECTION A day in the mountains has its own, shimmering rhythm. Light at this altitude finds you before you go looking for it. One could say that it arrives twice: once from the sky, and once from the snow, which returns it up- ward, to the underside of the chin, cheekbones or bottom lip. It searches the surfaces with piercing, alpine clarity. One must get outside and moving: two hours gone in what feels like twenty minutes, moving fast and free.Where the morn- ing was all velocity, the evening is velvet. The light is low; fac- es are softer. The evening does not arrive so much as accumu- late, slowly and pleasurably, like snowf lakes on a windowsill. In the 1930s Gabrielle Chanel took to the Alps with a circle that included the Count and Countess de Beaumont, the Duchess de Gramont and Lady Abdy. It was a sporting holiday in which the social exchange mattered as much as the slopes: days spent outdoors at speed and evenings spent talking in- doors; an entire intellectual and artistic milieu relocated to 1,856 metres above sea level for the season. Gabrielle Chanel returned to St Moritz for sever- al winters, enchanted by a val- ley that writers and artists had been coming to for decades be- fore her. Most of them came for the same reason: the light. The mountain still exerts the same pull, over ninety years later: inspiring, magnificent, time- less. For this year's CHANEL HOLIDAY campaign, Margaret Qualley fronts a snow-kissed Makeup collection that takes its cue from alpine life, bringing the rich history of the slopes firmly into the present. The CHANEL Makeup Creation Studio have drawn on the con- trasts that ref lect modern life on the mountains: the dazzling white of the peaks, the warmth of an interior, and the shifting light between day and night, open air and indoors. Across these contexts, one travels light, with a few carefully selected es- sentials: a touch of radiance for the face, something to enhance the lip, a fragrance applied at various points throughout the day, before joining others. The final look is a Parisian elegance enhanced by winter light: a nat- urally glowy complexion, eyes heightened with warm shades, and intensely glossy lips, de- manding attention. THE HOLIDAY COLLECTION The HOLIDAY collection re- flects the progression of a day. It begins with dawn, and snow itself: the pristine white of an untouched slope at sunrise. Then, the gold that settles and refracts at late afternoon. And finally, evening, indoors: the warm, woody tones and low pinks of a room with a fire in it. The finishes are pearlescent and satin rather than flat, so the light has something to catch, and everything carries a faint shimmer: the same one a village gives off at nightfall, when the windows come on one by one, the contours of the valley picked out in small points of gold. The cumulative effect is of a face shaped by living: colour arriving partly from the cold, a complexion that holds some of the morning's brightness, eyes warmed with gold and taupe, deepened by evening, with a mouth glossy enough to catch a low lamp. The collection evokes the mood of make-up in motion. Not a costume for the mountain, but a way of being in it. EXCLUSIVE CREATIONS The new season's EXCLUSIVE CREATIONS are also perfectly dressed for the trip. Each is em- bossed with a winter motif and comes in a soft white pouch with gold at the edges. CHANEL's signature black lacquer case can be tucked inside, as if nestled in snow. Neige d'Or: An illu- minating powder: white with a gold reflect, applied on the high points of the face for the kind of brightness that comes off fresh- ly fallen snow. Mont Rose: Takes JOUES CONTRASTE INTENSE, the House's blush, into a satin rosewood, its sur- face now embossed with a special motif of snow-covered peaks; for cheeks as though touched by the cold. Ombre d'Or: A four-shade eye pal- ette in which each shade does a different job: a satin taupe to shape the socket, a pearlescent gold and a deep brown for defi- nition and contrast, and a pink topcoat to add a touch of light. The ROUGE COCO HYDRA GLOSS trio: Brings three new shades of hydrating gloss: Étin- celle, a pearlescent gold; Givre, a white with gold beneath it; and Aura, a rosy peach made exclusively for this set. All can be worn alone, or over a lipstick. Malta to host European innovators shaping the future of circular electronics MALTA will bring together in- novators, investors, policymakers and industry leaders from across Europe on Friday 13 November for the European Circular Elec- tronics Kickstart (ECEK) Inno- vation Day. This event will focus on accelerating the transition towards a more resilient, sustain- able and circular European elec- tronics industry. The Innovation Day marks an important milestone for the Eu- ropean semiconductor and elec- tronics sector, at a time when Europe is seeking to strengthen its technological independence and reduce its reliance on imported critical raw materials. It will pro- vide a platform for new technolo- gies, investment and collaboration aimed at turning electronic waste into a valuable source of materials for European industry. At the centre of the event will be 15 disruptive startups select- ed for the 2026 ECEK Accelera- tion Programme. Drawn from 12 countries, the companies are de- veloping solutions across circular electronics, critical raw material recovery, advanced recycling, sus- tainable manufacturing and semi- conductor innovation. During the Innovation Day, they will present their technologies to investors, industry representatives, policy- makers and other stakeholders, opening opportunities for invest- ment, partnerships and further deployment. The ECEK programme forms part of EVEN CLOSER (weblink), a major European initiative, led by the University of Calabria, work- ing to establish a circular value chain for semiconductors by re- covering valuable materials from Waste from Electrical and Elec- tronic Equipment (WEEE) and industrial waste and reintegrating them into manufacturing. Materials such as silicon, galli- um, indium and germanium are essential to semiconductor pro- duction and, in turn, to industries ranging from automotive and en- ergy to digital technologies. Eu- rope currently relies heavily on external sources for many of these materials, creating potential vul- nerabilities in strategically impor- tant supply chains. EVEN CLOSER is addressing this challenge by developing new approaches to recovering critical raw materials, advancing recy- cling technologies and enabling recovered materials to be reused in semiconductor production. Bringing together 44 companies, universities, research centres and public sector partners, the project seeks to demonstrate how waste generated within Europe can be- come a resource for its future in- dustrial development. Innovation and entrepreneur- ship are an important part of this process. Managed by MALTAc- celerate (weblink) as part of EVEN CLOSER, the ECEK Acceleration Programme has supported the 15 selected startups through tailored mentoring, business develop- ment, investment readiness, ac- cess to funding and strategic part- nerships, as well as opportunities to pilot their technologies. The Innovation Day in Malta represents the culmination of the 2026 programme and an oppor- tunity to connect these emerging technologies with the investors, industrial partners and policy- makers who can help bring them to scale. By creating these connections, the event will contribute to EVEN CLOSER's wider objective of building a European semicon- ductor ecosystem that is more circular, competitive and resilient, while creating new opportuni- ties for innovation and industrial growth across European regions. Further information about EVEN CLOSER is available at evencloser.eu, while details of the 15 startups participating in the 2026 ECEK cohort can be found on the MALTAccelerate website. EVEN CLOSER has received funding from the European Un- ion's I3 Instrument under Grant Agreement No. 101228240.
