Victor Pasmore exhibition to open
this November at Hagar Meuseum
AN exhibition exploring the
connection between British
artist Victor Pasmore and
Gozo's Cave of Calypso will
open at Il-Ħaġar Museum on
14 November.
Titled Victor Pasmore: The
Cave of Calypso, the exhibi-
tion will showcase works by
the pioneering abstract artist,
who moved to Malta in the
1960s and lived and worked
on the islands until his death
in 1998.
The exhibition draws on
Pasmore's fascination with
the Cave of Calypso, which
inspired his abstract compo-
sitions. Rather than depict-
ing the cave directly, the art-
ist translated its perceptual
qualities into geometric com-
positions and reliefs.
Most of the works on dis-
play belong to the collection
of Milan-based lorenzelli
arte, which has a longstand-
ing history of exhibiting and
promoting Pasmore's work.
The exhibition is coordinat-
ed by Valerio Ballotta of GBK
Ltd and curated by Vince
Briffa. Ballotta will mark 30
years in the arts sector in
2027.
The official opening will
take place on Saturday, 14
November, at 7:30pm. The
exhibition will remain open
until 10 January 2027.
The initiative is being pre-
sented in collaboration with
lorenzelli arte, GBK Malta
Ltd, the Victoria Internation-
al Arts Festival Foundation
and the Victoria Local Coun-
cil. It is supported by Visit
Malta, the Local Government
Division, Midsea Books Ltd
and CVC Media Ltd.
