18 Events maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 30 OCTOBER 2013 Emirates to fly 70 million passengers in 2020 EMIRATES expects to fly 70 million passengers in 2020, and the airline together with its partners in Dubai are already progressing on plans to ensure the right infrastructure are in place to support and capitalise on this growth. These plans were unveiled by Emirates Airline President Tim Clark yesterday at a presentation to delegates of Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), who were visiting the UAE to make their final decision on the host city for the World Expo 2020. Dubai is a candidate city. "By 2020, we will have more than 250 aircraft serving some 70 million passengers across six continents. It will make us the largest airline on the planet by international passenger traffic," Clark said. He added: "However, being the biggest airline in the world is not really the end goal. Our aim has always been to connect travellers from around the world to Dubai, and other destinations with just a single stop via our hub. The strategic location of Dubai makes it possible for us to serve almost 90% of the world's population with nonstop flights, for example our 16hour Dubai to Houston service on the Boeing 777-300ER, or our 14hour Dubai to Sydney flight with the Airbus A380. Our location is a key advantage. The leaders of Dubai recognised this from the onset, and that is why Emirates is investing in the most advanced long-haul aircraft, and why Dubai has invested over the years to develop its infrastructure for international commerce and tourism." HP unveiled the results from a global study conducted by the Ponemon Institute, indicating that the cost, frequency and time to resolve cyberattacks continue to rise for the fourth consecutive year. Conducted by the Ponemon Institute and sponsored by HP Enterprise Security Products, the 2013 Cost of Cyber Crime Study found that the average annualised cost of cybercrime incurred by a benchmark sample of U.S. organisations was $11.56 million, representing a 78% increase since the initial study was conducted four years ago. The results also revealed that the time it takes to resolve a cyberattack has increased by nearly 130% during this same period, with the average cost incurred to resolve a single attack totalling more than $1 million. The sophistication of cyberattacks has grown exponentially in recent years, as adversaries both specialize and share intelligence in order to obtain sensitive data and disrupt critical enterprise functions. According to the 2013 Cost of Cyber Crime Study, advanced security intelligence tools such as security information and event management (SIEM), network intelligence systems, and big data analytics, can significantly help to mitigate data threats and reduce the cost of cybercrime. A catalyst for globalisation Over a third of the world's population lives within a 4-hour flight from Dubai, and two-thirds are within an 8-hour flight. Today, Emirates operates nearly 3,200 flights globally per week to 135 destinations in 76 countries. Since January 2012, it has launched new services to 20 destinations, adding air transport connections that will benefit trade and tourism to Dubai and beyond. Before year end, it will start services to Conakry (27 October), Sialkot (5 November) and Kabul (4 December). "Having the right equipment is important to our business model, but equally key to the mix is having the right 'software' – people and culture. With 50,000 staff from over 160 nationalities, Emirates is one of the largest multicultural organisations in the world," Clark said. Ready for the future Emirates is currently the largest operator of Airbus A380s and Boe- Tim Clark, President Emirates Airline, addressing delegates of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) who were visiting the UAE to make their final decision on the host city for the World Expo 2020 ing 777s, with an order book for 53 and 64 more of each aircraft type respectively. By 2020, it will have over 250 aircraft in its all-wide body fleet. "We plan for the long-term and these plans include working closely with our stakeholders in Dubai including Dubai Airports and the GCAA amongst others, to make sure the right infrastructure is in place to support our planned fleet and traffic growth," Clark said. Visitor and traffic growth at Dubai International airport has grown tremendously in the past decade, with international passenger numbers virtually doubling from 24.8 million in 2005 to 47.2 million in 2010. Last year, the airport handled 57 million passengers from 225 destinations, travelling in on more than 140 airlines including Emirates. In 2020, Dubai expects to welcome over 20 million visitors and airport infrastructure has been gearing up to meet this demand. It opened Terminal 3 dedicated to Emirates' operations in 2008, and recently opened a new Concourse A for Emirates' A380 operations. Emirates is the only airline in the world today that operates an A380 dedicated terminal. Work is also underway at Dubai International airport on a Concourse D to expand handling capability for the other airlines operating international flights, due for completion in 2015. Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central (DWC), which started freighter operations in June 2013, will welcome its first passenger flights on 27 October. Emirates is constructing a new home for its freighter operations at DWC with a cargo terminal and supporting infrastructure, scheduled for completion in May 2014. By the mid-2020s, Al Maktoum International Airport will have the capacity to handle 160 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo. Emirates operates four scheduled flights weekly from Malta to Dubai via Larnaka, Cyprus, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. While on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, Emirates operates direct flights from Dubai to Malta and return flights fly via Tripoli HP reveals cost of cybercrime Alfa Romeo escalates 78 percent, time to 4C completes resolve attacks more than doubles Nürburgring circuit Key findings from the 2013 study include: • The average annualised cost of cybercrime incurred per organisation was $11.56 million, with a range of $1.3 million to $58 million. This is an increase of 26%, or $2.6 million, over the average cost reported in 2012. • Organisations experienced an average of 122 successful attacks per week, up from 102 attacks per week in 2012. • The average time to resolve a cyberattack was 32 days, with an average cost incurred during this period of $1,035,769, or $32,469 per day – a 55% increase over last year's estimated average cost of $591,780 for a 24-day period. "The threat landscape continues to evolve as cyberattacks grow in sophistication, frequency and financial impact," said Frank Mong, vice president and general manager, Solutions, Enterprise Security Products, HP. Driver, journalist and expert on the German track Horst von Saurma was behind the wheel. The test conducted at the 'Green Hell' of the German complex is one of the countless tests that the Alfa Romeo supercar had to face in every part of the world, from the -35° in Sweden to the +40° of Abu Dhabi, from the Arizona (USA) deserts to the slopes of Mt. Etna in Sicily, and from the Balocco (VC), Italy track – where all Alfa Romeos have been developed, perfected and tested since 1962 – to the one at the Nürburgring. Used by car manufacturers the world over as a test track, the Nordschleife is marked by a particular configuration that alternates slow and fast curves, straight stretches and ups and downs to make it an outstanding testing ground for determining the soundness of a project. In short, the 'Green Hell' proved to be the ideal place to put the performance features of the Alfa Romeo 4C to the test. This true driving machine without compromise delivers its best precisely on the track, where speed, short braking distances and transverse acceleration are essential to get first-rate lap times: from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds flat, 258 km/h of top speed, deceleration peaks in the range of 1.2 g and lateral acceleration peaks over 1.1 g. All this is achieved also owing to an optimum weight distribution - 40% on the front axle and 60% of the rear axle - and to a weight to power ratio under 4 kg/HP, values worthy of a true supercar. Also contributing to the Alfa Romeo 4C's performance at the Nürburgring were the special Pirelli P Zero Trofeo tyres, the most sporty version in the Pirelli P Zero line which were developed in less than one year in time for this challenge. "Under the stylish and luxurious image of the Alfa Romeo 4C lies the true character of a sports car where comfort, technology and performance offer its driver a unique and unmatched experience on the road," says Kenneth Rizzo Naudi, Sales & Marketing Manager at Alfa Romeo. "Alfa Romeo is a highly followed brand and locally, the MiTo and the Giulietta have been enjoying a lot of popularity. In fact, we have a set of special offers on the current Giulietta and MiTo models at the showrom which will remain valid until the 8 November," Rizzo Naudi added.
