22 maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 30 OCTOBER 2013 MOTORSPORTS President Abela visits ASMK at Ta Qali Cassar and Pisani win ASMK Autocross THE 2nd Autocross event of the ASMK Pasta Poiatti National Championship was held on Sunday 27th October at the Ta Qali Race Circuits. The day's program included races by Gozo Autocross drivers and a non-championship motocross event. At about 1.00pm H.E. Dr George Abela President of Malta arrived at the ASMK circuits where He was welcomed by ASMK President Mr. Frans Deguara and Secretary General Mr. Johann Pace. Soon He noticed the races in progress on tracks by both the cars and motorcycles too from the paddocks and from the Control Room where he met the ASMK Officers and other members. Though this was His first visit on site ASMK has always held its annual appointment for organizing a Special event in aid of MCCF during Christmas time and also has met several delegations including ASMK Officers and drivers at San Anton palace. With all members present ASMK President Mr. Frans Deguara thanked H.E. Dr Abela for his visit and presented him a cheque collected during the 19th annual event in aid of MCCF. H.E. Dr Abela during his short speech expressed that he was very pleased with the organisation and stressed that all members should never forget the Association's motto 'AHJAR DELIZZJU MILLI VIZJU'. Later H.E. inspected one of the competition cars, that of Guzi Pace with regards to the safety gear contained in the vehicle and the driver too. As racing progressed one could feel the high competition between the drivers present. Patrick Cassar who returned to the sport in this event won all the three qualifying Heats for the Class A Finals. So did Vince Farrugia on his VW Polo. Gordon Johnson on a Peugeot 205, Christian Galea on his Fiat Ritmo, Malcom Borg on his Opel Corsa and Carlos Mifsud on a Ford Fiesta also qualified for the Class A Finals. Cassar and Johnson made an excellent start and took the lead with Mifsud following but was overtaken by Galea in the second lap. Soon all spectators drew their attention to the latter group where Farrugia was pressing hard and passed on Mifsud. Borg also started pressing hard on Mifsud but later was forced to retire due to a mechanical failure. Cassar, Johnson and Galea won the first three places of the seven laps race. Klass B starters were Mario Sci- KICKBOXING Malta to face the Netherlands ON of November 1, 2013 the event by Gladiators Promotions - Gladiators Night 6 will be taking place. Team Malta will face Team Netherlands in Kickboxing a number of matches. The event will take place at the Dolmen Hotel from 7pm onwards. The event will include ten Kick- Download the MaltaToday App now boxing and K1 matches of both amateur and professional level. The night will open with three supporting matches followed by six between athletes from Malta and the Netherlands. Team Malta is made up of three Maltese Kickboxing and Thai Boxing clubs that joined to represent Malta. The athletes are Ruth Tanti, Courtney Vella and Dareen Doneo from Ying Yang Team Noel, Brandon " Boġon " Borg and Dione Galea from Art of Fighting, Kyle Blienes from Malta Thai Boxing Club. The matches will be divided by four K1 rules and two with Kickboxing rules. The supporting matches are between Brandon Spiteri ( Team Noel ) with Christian Schembri (Wu Shu Ky) with K1 rules and without leg protection. Dareen Scerri (Basement Club) with Enrico Manicaro (Fight Legion), and Keith Micallef (Basement Club) with Sacha Silvio (Team Noel) will have Kickboxing matches with leg protection. The evening closes with a professional match between the Maltese Kickboxer Daniel "the Jet " Zahra and Adrian Tomascu from Romania. It will be a 3x3 match with K1 rules for the Title Belt. In December Zahra will have another match with an athlete from Northern Ireland. From the start Borg, Pisani and Vella took the lead to the first Left hander. Pisani took the lead ahead of Scicluna and Borg but Scicluna had to retire from the race soon after. Borg took 3rd place ahead of Gauci and Martin when all were pressing hard to overtake any competitor but it was Vella who overtook on Martin. The 7 lap race ended with Pisani winning this class. Borg and Gauci placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. Domenic Zammit won his Gozo Autocross class ahead of Joseph Agius on a Fiesta and Christian Apap. Joseph Vella placed 4th overall. These Gozo Autocross drivers drive cars based on the same Autocross rules. A Standard class is expected to commence by next January when a number of drivers are expected to compete in this low budget class. The Motocross riders performed a Non-Championship race. Clayton Camilleri riding a KTM 250cc won 2 Heats and a 2nd place gaining 72 points. Paul Muscat also riding a KTM offered much pressure on Camilleri on several laps but finished 2nd overall with 69 points. Edward Ciantar riding a Kawasaki 250cc placed 3rd with 55 points and is constantly improving in his riding habits. Class B Motocross was dominated by young rider Kyle Camilleri. Kyle rides an 85cc Suzuki RM but despite his smallest capacity bike's engine and also being the youngest of all he performed so well and succeeded in winning his three heats on the day with 75 points. Pierre Jourdon riding a KTM 150cc won second with 65 points and Peter Sammut riding a Honda 125cc placed 3rd with 56 points. Next event is scheduled for the 10th November when a Mass is said by ASMK Chaplin for the repose of souls of ASMK deceased members. All members and relatives are invited to attend. Racing starts at about noon.
