42 Events maltatoday, Sunday, 3 November 2013 HSBC Malta treats underprivileged children to a day out at sea HSBC Malta Foundation and Captain Morgan Cruises teamed up to offer a full-day boat ride around the Maltese islands to 200 children and their carers from various child-caring institutions. Departing from Sliema ferries, the boat ride included a day full of activity, a stop for lunch at Comino, and time to enjoy some of the Malta's most beautiful swimming areas. "This the tenth consecutive year that we have organised this activity which we believe offers the children, many of whom are facing serious life challenges, quality time-out to relax and play. We strive to make each year's outing better than the last with new games and socially oriented activities to engage and entertain everyone on-board," said Josef Camilleri, Head of Sustainability at HSBC Malta. "Seeing the joy on the children's faces during this outing is worth the effort," said Kevin Zammit Briffa, General Manager from Captain Morgan Cruises. Over the last decade, the HSBC Malta Foundation donated more than €3 million towards its three central objectives: to improve the quality of life and education for disadvantaged children, to promote and work towards a more sustainable environment, and to preserve Malta's rich cultural heritage. HSBC Malta volunteers helping children board for a fun day at sea organised jointly with Captain Morgan Cruises The Guinness Global Gathering Pictured at The Guinness Global Gathering at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, Ireland were Kim Spiteri and Ian Camilleri from Malta. Forty-six Guinness fans from around the world were in Dublin for the three-day event, organised by Guinness and The Gathering. Attendees were chosen from thousands of entries from over 20 countries that had taken part in a St Patrick's Day photography competition earlier this year. The Guinness fans were treated to a three-day celebration in Ireland that included a VIP tour of the home of Guinness, The Guinness Storehouse at St James's Gate where they enjoyed a tasting session with Guinness Masterbrewer Fergal Murray and classes on how to pour the perfect pint. After two days savoring the cultural sights and traditional pubs of the capital, the group was treated to a whistle stop tour of the Garden of Ireland, Co. Wicklow taking in the stately Powerscourt House, the picturesque Glendalough and the dramatic Great Sugar Loaf Mountain. Accountants body hold its third graduation The Malta Istitute of Accountants recently held its third annual graduation ceremony. The event, which was once again hosted at the Attard Parish Hall, brought together a total of 134 graduates (74 ACCA and 60 Bachelor of Accountancy Honours), to receive their Associate Member of the Institute membership certificate. In all, some 500 people attended the event as the new graduates were accompanied by their parents and close relatives. Following the introductory speech by MIA Secretary General Noel Zerafa, MIA President Maria Micallef welcomed the graduates as new members of the MIA. She stressed upon the importance of sound ethical principles for all members of the profession, saying that the MIA has a primary role to play in addressing issues of public trust in the profession, which had been adversely affected following the onset of the financial crisis. Over a professional career, difficult choices are likely to be made, highlighting conflicts between selfinterest and a professional responsibility to prioritise the public interest, she said. Prof. Oliver Friggieri, the guest speaker at the ceremony, talked about the importance of values and their meaning in a professional's life. The ceremony was followed by a reception in the quaint surroundings of the courtyard adjacent to the hall. Keeping it real with Tag Heuer TAG Heuer, Official Timekeeper of Ferrari throughout the 1970s, partnered with the makers of Rush to accurately recreate the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing In its depiction of the Formula 1 environment of 1976, Academy Award® Winning director Ron Howard's Rush starring Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl is historically accurate down to the smallest detail. From the cars to the clothes, every element has been meticulously researched. Not since Le Mans, the classic 1970 race film starring Steve McQueen, has a major Hollywood film more authentically recreated the intense action and glamour of the world's fastest sport. No surprise, then, that TAG Heuer played a key role in the look of both films. In Le Mans, McQueen, playing driver Michael Delaney, wore the Heuer crest on his overalls, helmet and car. When the costume department offered him a choice of luxury sports watches to wear, he naturally chose the square-shaped Heuer Monaco chronograph, the same one worn by his friend, the great Heuer-sponsored Swiss driver Jo Siffert. In Rush, the Heuer colors and crest are visible on the overalls of Niki Lauda (played by Daniel Brühl), his teammate Clay Regazzoni (Pierfrancesco Favino) and every other member of the Scuderia Ferrari crew.--just as they were in 1976. The Swiss watchmaking brand, the world leader in prestigious and high-end chronographs since 1860, signed on as Official Timekeeper of Ferrari in 1971. Throughout the 70s – the golden age of Formula One--every Ferrari driver wore a Heuer chronograph with his name and blood group engraved on the case. In Rush, the brand's colors once again bedeck the tracks at Nürburgring, during the German Grand Prix, at Monza for the Italian GP, and the season closer at the Fuji Speedway in Japan. TAG Heuer also loaned the production the F1 timing equipment used in the period. Developed by Jack Heuer for Ferrari, it was the first to measure to 1/1,000ths of a second and was subsequently used by most teams on the circuit. And, of course, there are the watches.... In Rush, Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) wears a Heuer Silverstone, the iconic chronograph of the 70s, named after the British motor racing circuit. James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) wears the full gold Heuer Carrera chronograph, first created by Jack Heuer in 1963 and named after the Carrera Panamericana Mexico Road Race, the world's most grueling open-road endurance competition. Part of motorracing lore, the watches are among the most coveted collectibles in the watch world. The Silverstone was re-released in an exclusive edition in 2010. The bold Carrera design is celebrating this year its 50th anniversary and now houses's the brand's new Calibre 1887 movement. Both vintage pieces, along with the timing equipment, are now safely back in their display cases at the TAG Heuer's 360° Museum in LaChaux-des-Fonds, Switzerland.
