Michael Laus conducts the orchestra in the inaugural concert with works featuring Beethoven's Symphony No 3 "Eroica" in E flat major and Richard Strauss Horn Concerto no. 1 with Spanish soloist Jose Garcia Gutierrez. The performance will be a sacred oratorio-type work setting the Latin text of the Stabat Mater. Performed by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra led by Marcelline Agius. Other performers include: Charlene Portelli (soprano), Josef Bugeja (cantor), St Monica Choir (choir director Sister Benjamina Portelli) and the Jubilate Deo Choir (choir director Christopher Muscat). THEATRE & DANCE NOVEMBER 8-10 The Lockerbie Bomber DnA Theatre production of Kenneth N Ross's play at St James Cavalier, Valletta, 20:00. The play explores the possibility that Abdelbaset al Megrahi, the Libyan man eventually tried and convicted for the bombing, could have been a scapegoat, and that governments may have systematically covered up the truth behind the bombing for years. Directed by Herman Grech. Cast includes Mikhail Basmadjian, Julia Calvert, Manuel Cauchi, Alan Montanaro, Denise Mulholland and Alan Paris. Tickets are at €15. 'Amala's Blade' artist Micheal Dialynas will be among the guests at Malta Comic Con 2013 Divergent Thinkers 2 Collective exhibition presenting the work of young artists, curated by Raphael Vella and taking place at St James Cavalier, Valletta. LITERARY EVENTS NOVEMBER 13-17 National Book Festival Annual book fair at the Malta Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, now rechristened as the 'National Book Festival'. As the tradition goes, during this event, publishers, authors and bookshops will showcase their material, both old and new. This year, the NBC will also be launching a literary journal in order to promote emerging and yet unpublished authors. During weekday mornings, a programme of events aimed at school children will be held by the Education Department and other entities such as the Centre for Literacy of the University of Malta and the weekend will be jam-packed with activities aimed at people of all ages. Among this year's international guests will be Mike Carey (Lucifer, The Unwritten), Marco Santucci (Spider-Man, Captain America), Will Simpson (Judge Dredd, Game of Thrones storyboards), Esad Ribic (Thor) and many more.
