55 Sport maltatoday, SUNDAY, 10 NOVEMBER 2013 TABLE FOOTBALL Valletta Lions TFC qualify for the Champions League DURING the last weekend, Valletta Lions Table Football Club participated in the Champions/Europa League Preliminary Round played in Naples. The team was drawn in a tough group on Saturday that included the Italian side Bologna Tigers (Winners of last year Europa League) who were the seeded team. After losing against Bologna Tigers the team went on to win 3-1 against the Belgian side S.C. Lion's Eugies and 2-1 against the Greek team Probladores Griegos TSC so thus qualified to play in the Champions League on Sunday. On Sunday, in the club first time participation in the Champions League, Valletta ended up in a very difficult group which was composed of the other Maltese team Valletta Subbuteo Club, Italian Club Perugia and Belgian side Rochfort The results saw the team losing 3-0 against Valletta Subbuteo Club and Rochefort 4-0 while drawing with Perugia 1-1 and thus the team was eliminated at this stage.. In the end after their participation in the International Open held in Malta and the Champions League the team managed to climb to the 41st position in the World Ranking as published by the International Federation FISTF.
