LITERARY EVENTS NOVEMBER 13-17 National Book Festival Annual book fair at the Malta Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, now rechristened as the 'National Book Festival'. As the tradition goes, during this event, publishers, authors and bookshops will showcase their material, both old and new. This year, the NBC will also be launching a literary journal in order to promote emerging and yet unpublished authors. During weekday mornings, a programme of events aimed at school children will be held by the Education Department and other entities such as the Centre for Literacy of the University of Malta and the weekend will be jam-packed with activities aimed at people of all ages. Opening hours: 09:00-13:00 and 17:00-21:00 (Wednesday and Thursday); 09:00-13:00 and 17:00-22:00 (Friday); 09:00-12:30 and 16:00-22:00 (Saturday) and 09:00-20:00 (Sunday). NOVEMBER 17 Le Salon – Absence Live literary event at Coach and Horses, Valley Road, Msida. Interested participants are encouraged to read out their prose and/or poetry, as well as collaborate with visual artists. Doors open at 20:00. COMIC CON Award-winning 'Fatale' artist Sean Phillips will be in attendance at the Malta Comic Con NOVEMBER 30, DECEMBER 1 Malta Comic Con 2013 Annual comic book convention at St James Cavalier, Valletta. Open from 10:00 to 18:00 on November 30, and 11:00 to 19:00 on December 1. Among this year's international guests will be Mike Carey (Lucifer, The Unwritten), Marco Santucci (Spider-Man, Captain America), Will Simpson (Judge Dredd, Game of Thrones storyboards), Esad Ribic (Thor) and many more. The convention will also highlight the work of local comic book practitioners, as well as showcase gaming and cosplay initiatives. Comic books will also be sold at discount prices.
