On the occasion of the bicentenary of Verdi's birth, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra – conducted by Michael Laus – will be celebrating with a concert of operatic arias and overtures from some of his best loved operas at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta. DECEMBER 20 Carlo Muscat and Joe Debono After some time apart, saxophonist Carlo Muscat and pianist Joe Debono are back to perform a brand new set, this time at the St James Cavalier Centre for Carmine Lauri & Simon Hester recital Two recitals featuring different programmes at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta. Internationally acclaimed London-based Maltese violinist Carmine Lauri and his accompanist Simon Hester will perform in aid of Hospice Malta. Starts at 20:00. Tickets are at €25, €20 and €10. CHRISTMAS EVENTS DECEMBER 7, 8 The Perfect Christmas Fair Christmas Fair at the Corinthia Palace Hotel and Spa, Balzan. There will be various stalls including exclusive brands such as Charles & Ron, Versal, 202 Jewellery, Verve and Grey & Adler, as well as a number of artisans selling arts and crafts, a flower arranging competition by the students of the three Micallef Grimaud Ladies, Christmas floral demonstration by Alistair Fenech (by booking) and Christmas cooking demonstration (by booking). The fair will also include an art exhibition featuring works of art by Ray Piscopo, ceramic sculptures by George Muscat and Photographs by Mary Attard. DECEMBER 8-29 Christmas Carols at Palazzo Parisio Christmas Carol singing by the Children's Choir by Phylisienne Brincat every Sunday in December between 12:30 to 13:30 at Palazzo Parisio, Mdina. In the environment of the Museum, within the Palazzo, the nativity scene will be celebrated with a Christmas Crib by Mariorick Mifsud. DECEMBER 14-JANUARY 5 Bethlehem f'Ghajnsielem An animated nativity village spread on 20,000sqm of land at Ghajnsielem, Gozo. It offers naturalistic reproduction of the environ of Bethlehem and the timeless story of Nativity every December at 'Ta Passi' fields in Ghajnsielem. Bethlehem f'Ghajnsielem will also include re-enactments of the 'trip' from Nazareth to Bethlehem of Joseph and Mary as well as the Adoration of the Magi on the Epiphany (first Sunday after New Year's day) when the three Wise Men will depart on horseback from Malta to Cirkewwa terminal where they will board a ferry in mid-afternoon before making the triumphal entrance to the nativity village.
