The purpose of Euroscola is to give students the opportunity to involve themselves with current global issues thus allowing each participating school to present its own views and to come up with possible solutions whilst maintaining an open-minded and diplomatic approach towards others. Students experience a day as a MEP, engaging in the EU decision-making through debates, negotiations with their colleagues, voting and adopting resolutions on topical European issues. This event has become an annual highlight in the College's extracurricular activities calendar and is actively promoted by the school, as it strongly believes in the value of active citizenship. Seeing that Malta is such a small island, Maltese students value this opportunity to participate in international events such as this and the Edwardian Sixth Formers were no exception. The group from St Edward's College included 17 students who participated in a number of workshops together with participants from 24 other countries within the European Union. Each country was represented by a student and spoke about the school they attend and their country's traditions. Sophia Spiteri gave a presentation to promote Malta and St Edward's College to the assembled audience and Thomas Debono presented the same introduction in French. The group also visited Paris and was taken on organised visits to cathedral of Notre Dame, the Arc de Triomphe, an exhibition at the Conciergerie and above all the Eiffel Tower. These visits are an opportunity to actively demonstrate to the students the interdisciplinary aspect of learner formation. This is a fundamental aspect of the International Baccalaureate two year study programme that St Edward's College Sixth Form offers. The group was accompanied and guided by the IB Coordinator, Dominique Inglott and teacher, Francois Zammit. The University of Malta kicked off Christmas on Campus, a public fundraising event in aid of three beneficiaries. The proceeds will go towards Istrina, Dar tal-Providenza and to the University's Research, Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT), to benefit cancer research at the University. Christmas on Campus 2013 features a series of daily events throughout December. Among the numerous activities, there are food stalls, sale of Christmas goods and bakes from the Chaplaincy foyer, €1 Smart Card donation, competitions, a movie marathon night, mini concerts. Other highlights include 'Pumpiera' on Tuesday 17 December whereby participants will be allowed to wear full gear and ride the fire engine for a nominal donation, and a Car Free Day on Thursday 19 December when all cars will enter campus against a €1 donation. This year's edition of Christmas on Campus is being coordinated by various parties including the University Administration, the Chaplaincy and KSU, who are also bringing together several student organisations to further aid this cause. "Christmas on Campus 2013 brings together the joint effort of all students, staff and academics at the University of Malta, in a bid to make a difference in our society," said the University's Chaplain Fr Patrick Magro. "Preparations for this event have been going on from the beginning of this academic The Vodafone 4G Challenge hits the City Vodafone Malta, the first communications provider to bring a high speed 4G network to Malta, has recently organised The Vodafone 4G Challenge, another event that marked the launch of the 4G network. "The activities are open to students, friends, families and the public and we hope that this year's efforts would raise a good sum of money." A third of the fundraising proceeds will go towards the Research Trust (RIDT) of the University of Malta, in favour of cancer research projects at the University. "This is another opportunity for the community to actively participate in the future of our University by supporting its research," said RIDT's CEO Wilfred Kenely. "One of our priorities is the recognition that research is another good cause that deserves our support. As a country, we are renowned for our generous spirit when we come across a good cause. Now we want to ensure that research is on the 'good causes' list because it is beneficial to the community," said Kenely. The University Chapel will be holding the Christmas Novena between the 16 and 23 December at 12.30pm, the Christmas Vigil on Christmas Eve at 11.30pm and a Thanksgiving Holy Mass on 31 December at 8.00pm.
