55 Sport maltatoday, SUNDAY, 22 DECEMBER 2013 CRICKET Krishna do it again ON Saturday the Cricket Winter league continued with the Krishna C.C team taking on Marsa CC. On such a great day for cricket , not much delight was seen on the scoreboard. Amazingly another low score affair with an amazing result. The Krishna team won the toss and elected to bat. Waseem Abbas and Rave Sharma opened the batting. With ten runs coming of the first over the Krishna team were all smiles and thinking of a high scoring innings. For the rest of the innings only two more overs went for ten runs or more and one other which went for twenty three, with Haroon Majeed capitalizing on a high no ball which went over the point boundary for six. Majeed ended making thirty two runs from eighteen balls which also included four fours. Next top scorer was extras with twenty four while on the batting front it was twenty one runs from Mike Caruana. The Krishna team after such a great start were bowled out in the eighteenth over for a total of 109 runs. Sid Anand was the pick of the bowlers who lured the batsmen into false shots and took four wickets. Tony Azzopardi bowled the his best spell of bowling in a very long time and looked very menacing, he took two wickets while Sarfraz Ali and Zubair Raja took a wicket each. Sam Aquilina had a good day and took three catches while Simon Lavendar held onto two. The Marsa team were on a mission , opening with Tony Azzopardi and Sam Aquilina. Azzopardi smashed three boundaries of the first over he faced , but was eventually bowled for fourteen. Aquilina batted extremely well , using his feet, placing the ball, he top scored for his team with thirty five runs which included three fours. Simon Lavendar made twelve runs, Zubair Raja seventeen and Sid Anand twelve runs and suddenly the game was at an interesting climax. Marsa needed ten runs from nine overs while Krishna need to take two wickets for victory. On the last ball of the eighth a wicket fell and only five runs were added. In the last over , first ball was blocked, second ball was pushed just behind point and the batsmen went for a run, the fielder was slick Haroon Majeed who swooped onto the ball and had the ball in the keepers glove and the run out was effected, amazingly the Krishna team win again. Krishna earned fourteen points from the win while Marsa earned two.
