A dramatic re-interpretation of the Grimm's Little Red Riding Hood folk tale at St Ursula Hall, The Citadel, Victoria, Gozo, 20:00. Directed by Rob Ricards. Cast includes Julia Camilleri, Marion Sayers, Abiodun Adeyemi and Joseph Muscat. Designed by Luke Azzopardi and Adrian Abela. Spectacular overtures Tender Napalm by Unifaun Theatre Bark Bark Disco will be performing with YEWS at Blitz, Valletta on Friday Maltese-language adaptation of Oscar Wilde's play based on the biblical account of Salome, at St James Cavalier, Valletta, 20:00. Translated by Alfred Palma and directed by Mario Frendo. Cast includes: Larissa Bonaci, Mario Micallef, Nathalie Micallef and Alan Fenech. JANUARY 24-26, 31; FEBRUARY 1, 2 Tender Napalm Unifaun Theatre production of Philip Ridley's drama at St James Cavalier, Valletta, 20:00. What happens when two former lovers, traumatised by an unnamed disaster try to pick up the pieces of their relationship? Directed by Toni Attard. Cast includes Bettina Paris and Rommel Grech. EXHIBITIONS JANUARY 9-FEBRUARY 16 A Libyan Lama Exhibition of contemporary Libyan artists at St James Cavalier, Valletta, organised in collaboration with Noon Arts. Artists include Matug Aborawi (who has just recently joined Noon Arts), Yousef Fetis, Mohammad Bin Lamin, Hadia Gana, Naziha Arebi and Arwa Abouon. UNTIL JANUARY 31 Twisttease Exhibition of paintings by Diane Buttigieg at the Hotel Juliani Lobby, St George's Road, St Julian's, playfully re-interpreting Maltese iconography. Organised by SO Galerie. UNTIL MARCH 31 Maltese Maritime Graffiti Exhibition of historical graffiti at the Malta Maritime Museum, Birgu. Scattered around Malta, graffiti are found on megalithic stones, medieval prisons, and on modern buildings such as wayside chapels, parish churches, public buildings and private homes. The exhibition is based on the pioneering research work by the Museums Department former employee Joseph Muscat and his recent donation of various casts of ship graffiti to the museum. A number of salvaged original graffiti will also be displayed, including a large ship. graffito and legend dating to 1766 salvaged from a demolished residence in Zurrieq. Opening hours: 09:00 – 17:00. PUBLIC LECTURES & CONFERENCES UNTIL JANUARY 31 The Great Auk – Extinction is forever… or is it? An exhibition on the Great Auk at the National Museum of Natural History, Mdina, which sadly became extinct in the late 1800s. The last known breeding pair was killed on the island of Eldey (Iceland) in June 1844. It used to winter in southern waters including the Mediterranean Sea and may have also visited the Maltese coastline. The theme of the exhibition is extinction, and apart from various and varied material pertaining to the Great Auk there will also be an emphasis on Maltese species of flora and fauna that have became extinct or are facing extinction. The exhibition includes original prints, publications, newspapers and other paraphernalia from the National Collection and a private collection. Opening hours: 09:00 – 17:00. Entrance is included in price of ticket to the museum. FEBRUARY 19-22 Archaeoacoustics conference Little Red will reinterpret the Grimms' fairy tale on stage An international multi-disciplinary conference at Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa, St Julian's that welcomes academics, researchers, musicologists and non-presenting enthusiasts. Anticipated presentations include performance, discoveries, observations and science from around the world – all focused on the Archaeology of Sound.
