50 Sport maltatoday, SUNDAY, 12 JANUARY 2014 SPORTTODAY FOOTBALL Mosta comeback from behind to sink Hibernians Naxxar's positive run continues as they defeat Rabat MOSTA shocked Hibernians in a 3-2 victory. Mosta came back from behind to earn a fantastic victory and three important points in their battle for a place in the Championship Pool. This result leaves Hibernians in a mini crisis as it was their third defeat in fie matches. Hibernians were the better side from the start as they started to produce goal-scoring opportunities after the first minute of play. Hibernians did take the lead after only three minutes of play. Clayton Faila's shot from outside the area ended up at the back of the net beating goalkeeper Omar Borg. Obinna Obiefule went close to scoring for Hibernians on the fifth minute, but his shot was partially saved to then hit the woodwork. Mosta were also unlucky not to equalise as Gianmarco Piccioni was also denied by the woodwork. Both teams continued to have great goal scoring opportunities but Hibernians managed to double their lead on the 39th minute. Clayton Faila's direct freekick left no chance for Mosta's goalkeeper Omar Borg. Mosta had better luck in the second half as they reduce the gap on the 49th minute. Off a cross by Dyson Falzon, Tyrone Farrugia's header was partially blocked by goalkeeper Mario Muscat and off the rebound, Manolito Micallef made sure he found the back of the net with his shot. Referee Phillip Farrugia pointed to the penalty spot on the 62nd minute when Hibernian's Zoran Levnajic handled the ball inside the area. From the penalty spot Gianmarco Piccioni;s low shot beat goalkeeper Mario Muscat. Mosta were full of confidence and they managed to take the lead on the 69th minute. Lukas Duriska served Diego Pereira to have the latter make his way into the penalty area and then back pass to Yuri de Jesus Messias. Messias easily beat Mario Muscat with his shot from close range to give Mosta the lead for the first time in the match. Mosta managed to hold on to the lead to secure all three points. Naxxar are another team fighting for their place in the Championship Pool and this was a important victory for them. Rabat have not tasted victory in over ten matches and remain at the bottom of the table with only 6 points. Naxxar took the lead on the 18th minute thanks to Terence Scerri who scored from inside the area. The match turned for the worse for Rabat on the 32nd minute when Aidan Azzopardi was sent off after committing a foul on Victor Bellia. On the 49th minute, Naxxar doubled their lead. Andre Rocha da Silva easily beat goalkeeper Pavle Velimirovic with his shot. Rabat practically had no chance to make a comeback after another player was sent off on the 57th minute. This time goalkeeper Pavle Velimirovic for committing a foul on Terrence Scerri outside the area. Naxxar easily took advantage of Rabat's handicap and they managed to score their third goal of the match on the 88th minute. Andre Rocha da Silva served substitute Jurgen Debono to have the latter beat goalkeeper Jonathan Azzoaprdi with his shot.
