44 Events maltatoday, Sunday, 12 January 2014 'Good sense prevailed' – The Sense Group "It is worth taking note of the positive outcome of the end of the year festivities around the island, when it comes to the subject of the dangers of mixing alcohol with driving," Ray Grech, Director General of alcohol awareness initiative The Sense Group, said. "The welcome news of no fatalities or major accidents connected to drink driving, and the results of hundreds of police administering breathalyser tests and producing only a few cases of above limit alco- hol consumption when many thousands were celebrating, shows that a strong common goal effort by all stakeholders, including the alcohol industry itself, has and will continue to reap rewards in the form of saving lives," Grech added. He also said that this also proves how a mix of credible educational campaigns and enforcement is the best formula to help the public understand and comply with the rules of common sense "which everyone stands to benefit from". "Thousands of online hits on our www.drinkawaremalta.com website in 2013 leading up to last month are also evidence of the increasing interest the public has in maintaining an attitude of moderation when it comes to alcohol consumption. We hope this augurs well for the future," Grech concluded. International Hotel Investments announces Corinthia Hotel Benghazi project New Director of Studies at IFS Malta IFS Malta's newly appointed Director of Studies, Robert Sultana The Institute of Financial Services Malta has appointed Robert J. Sultana as its Director of Studies, with responsibilities for all educational and business development aspects of the Institute. His duties include management of the teaching team, establishing and maintaining appropriate academic procedures, quality assurances, observance of assessment and certification parameters, together with the development of training for the Institute in response to local market requirements. IFS Malta President Simon Grech said, "Sultana is conversant with the educational parameters and accreditation systems of Malta as well as those within the EU and UK. He continuously monitors developments within the financial services industry and interacts with key stakeholders. This makes him very knowledgeable of current and upcoming market training requirements. Appointing him to the post of Director of Studies was a natural step in his career progression and one which I have no doubt will serve the Institute well." Commencing his financial services career with a well-established local insurance brokerage firm, Sultana later moved to a post within the Insurance Unit of the Malta Fi- nancial Services Authority (MFSA). After that, he took the role of Business Development Manager at IFS Malta, where his main focus was on developing the Institute's financial training activities. Since joining IFS Malta, Sultana has developed and introduced several new training initiatives and course programmes for the local financial services industry, spanning from funds to regulatory, investments and banking specialisations.
