55 Sport maltatoday, SUNDAY, 19 JANUARY 2014 CRICKET Panthers drown Sharks ON Saturday the Sharks took on the Panthers in a thirty over friendly cricket game. The Sharks won the toss and elected to field first. The Sharks managed to bowl out the Panthers with three balls to spare. This did not stop the Panthers from making a huge score of 192 runs. The catching ability of the Sharks was very questionable with a minimum of eight catches being dropped or missed. The ground fielding was actually pretty good , with first Andrew Naudi swooping on a ball and running out by direct hit, Haroon Majeed who had made sixteen runs from thirteen balls which included three fours., the second top effort and probably better than the first was Matt McKeogh direct hit from thirty meters which ran out Joy Ghoseroy who had ten runs to his name. Zubair Raja who opened the innings had a charmed innings making twenty seven runs. Nowell Khosla could thank his lucky stars when he was dropped after only having eight runs and went on to play some great shots on his way to fifty two runs which included three fours and two sixes. Sid Anand another who chanced went on to make one of his personal highest score at the ground, forty seven runs which included one six and one four. Ravi Sharma made sixteen runs and the last three batsmen made eight runs between them. For the Sharks Andrew Naudi and Paul Bradley took two wickets each while Mike Caruana took one. The Sharks were up for the challenge, the Panthers were hungrier than ever and put on a good bowling attack to defend the total they posted. The Sharks lost their first five batsmen within twelve overs and only made twenty runs between them of the bat. Mike Caruana (twenty six runs , three fours), Paul Bradley (twenty runs , two fours) and Ewan Perens (sixteen runs, one four and one six) tried desperately to make the runs and all paid the ultimate price off being bowled. The Sharks were bowled out for 126 runs which gave the Panthers a very good victory. Haroon Majeed was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets, Ravi Sharma took two while Qamer Abbas, Waseem Khan and Kevin Krishna all took one. Next Saturday the Winter League continues with Krishna C.C taking on Melita C.C. In the morning the Sunoco Cricket academy will be from 9:00 am till 10:30am. Panthers C.C.
