22 Sport maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 22 JANUARY 2014 MOTORSPORTS ASMK will be organising the 7th Autocross ASMK- Pasta Poiatti National Championship event on Sunday 26th January. The event which is scheduled to start at noon will be run in a clock-wise direction which also includes a special S shaped bend right before the Finish Line. This race is a favourit one with many drivers and spectators alike. Gordon Johnson on his Peugeot 205 is still leading the National Autocross Championship with 84 points while Melo Zammit is challenging the leadership on his Escort with 82 points. Vince Farrugia on his Volkswagen Polo follows in third place with 70 points while Matthew Borg on his Vauxhall Nova is placed 4th Overall with 66 points. This result has already drawn the attention of many about any possible placing changes especially among the present top two drivers. From the beginning of this present Championship all Class A and B results are listed in one National Championship Points scale thus, the names on the list are frequently changing places. This has also resulted in more attractive driving exhibitions and higher competition levels. The Present Class A Leader Melo Zammit has won 24 points from the 54 points available on his Escort Mk3. Christian Galea on a Fiat Ritmo and Gordon Johnson on a Peugeot 205 are both placed 2nd with 15 points each. Vince Farrugia on a Volkswagen Polo is placed 4th with 13 points. Andrew Pisani is leading the Autocross Class B with 27 points on a Vauxhall Nova. Josef Grech on his Ford Fiesta is placed 2nd in Class B with 13 points and Philip Joe Vella is PHOTOGRAPHY BY DV PHOTOGRAPHY Johnson and Zammit leaders in ASMK Autocross Christian Galea followed by Phillip Vella placed 3rd in Class on his Vauxhall Nova with 10 punts. The Gozo Autocross Class leader is Domenic Zammit on his Alfa Sud with 42 points. The deal had practically been done on Monday evening until angry Nerazzurri fans bombarded the club with complaints. The club has released the following statement Tuesday evening: "FC Internazionale has decided not to continue negotiations with Juventus regarding the transfer of Fredy Guarin and Mirko Vucinic. President Thohir, having conferred with Massimo Moratti and the club's management team, did not feel that the necessary technical and financial conditions were in place to come to a satisfactory agreement. The president has already instructed the club's sporting directors to assess other transfer opportunities, with the aim of strengthening the team while respecting the parameters imposed by the Financial Fair Play rules" The matter might still not be over, as Guarin is reportedly furious with the collapse of the deal and has even threatened to go on strike rather than play in an Inter jersey again. Juventus have themselves issued a statement, revealing their intention to focus on the Coppa Italia match against Roma rather than comment on the deal. "Juventus Football Club does not wish to comment on the statement released by FC Internazionale," it said. "The club is focused on tonight's Coppa Italia match and will assess and explain the disconcerting events that have come to pass in due course." Blackpool sack Paul Ince PAUL Ince has been sacked as manager of Blackpool. The Seasiders have taken just one point since November during a run of nine defeats in 10 games and the former Blackburn boss and his backroom staff of Alex Rae and Steve Thompson "have had their contracts terminated with immediate effect." The club also confirmed in a brief statement that veteran midfielder Barry Ferguson, 35, will take charge of training from Thursday onwards. The statement on www.blackpoolfc.co.uk read: "Blackpool Football Club can confirm that manager Paul Ince and assistants Alex Rae and Steve Thompson have had their contracts terminated with immediate effect. "Barry Ferguson will take charge of training when the players return on Thursday. "A further announcement will be made in due course." Former England captain Ince succeeded Michael Appleton last February following his decision to join Blackburn shortly after being appointed. Although Blackpool are still eight points off the drop zone, results only tell part of the story with fans furious at Ince's failure to add to a depleted squad this month and the indiscipline which has seen them accrue nine red cards already. Ince, who has also managed Macclesfield, MK Dons and Notts County, guided the team to a midtable finish last season before starting this campaign in impressive fashion. The 46-year-old was voted manag- Paul Ince er of the month in August, when his team topped the division, and they were still in the top four as recently as November before the wheels began to fall off at an alarming speed both on and off the field. In their first December fixture, three men were sent off in the loss at Yeovil and two more were given their marching orders in a 5-1 thrashing to Derby four days later. The Seasiders, though, denied they had a discipline problem, an accusation which had been levelled at them since Ince received a five-game stadium ban from the FA in October for his actions following a game with Bournemouth in September. The governing body later disclosed the details of Ince's expletive-laden rant at a fourth official, who the Blackpool boss had also physically assaulted following the final whistle. Things only got worse in the new year with the club seeing five loanees returning to their parent clubs and then fining striker Michael Chopra for his outburst on Twitter in which he complained only six players and a fitness coach were present at training.
