PUBLIC LECTURES & CONFERENCES FEBRUARY 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 Forget-Me-Not Original production written and directed by Simone Spiteri and presented by Du Theatre, at St James Cavalier, Valletta at 20:00. Fiddler on the Roof centres on Tevye, the head of a Jewish family. He must cope both with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village. EXHIBITIONS UNTIL JANUARY 31 Twisttease Exhibition of paintings by Diane Buttigieg at the Hotel Juliani Lobby, St George's Road, St Julian's, playfully re-interpreting Maltese iconography. Organised by SO Galerie. UNTIL FEBRUARY 16 A Libyan Lama Exhibition of contemporary Libyan artists at St James Cavalier, Valletta, organised in collaboration with Noon Arts. Artists include Matug Aborawi (who has just recently joined Noon Arts), Yousef Fetis, Mohammad Bin Lamin, Hadia Gana, Naziha Arebi and Arwa Abouon. UNTIL FEBRUARY 16 Juxtapositions Collective exhibition at St James Cavalier featuring works by Derek Nice, Paul Gibson, Jean Pierre Gatt and Wayne Hill. The four artists have been brought together to play off each other's energies. C UNTIL MARCH 31 M Maltese Maritime Graffiti Exhibition of historical graffiti Y at the Malta Maritime Museum,CM Birgu. Scattered around Malta, graffiti are found on megalithic MY stones, medieval prisons, and CY on modern buildings such as wayside chapels, parish churches, CMY public buildings and private homes. The exhibition is based K on the pioneering research work by the Museums Department former employee Joseph Muscat and his recent donation of various casts of ship graffiti to the museum. A number of salvaged original graffiti will also be displayed, including a large ship. graffito and legend dating to 1766 salvaged from a demolished residence in Zurrieq. FILM SCREENINGS JANUARY 27 Boli Aksjon – Documentary screening Screening of a documentary by Jean Roulain about squatters in Oslo, Norway at Gugar Hangout and Bar, 89A, Republic Street, UNTIL JANUARY 31 The Great Auk – Extinction is forever… or is it? An exhibition on the Great Auk at the National Museum of Natural History, Mdina, which sadly became extinct in the late 1800s. The last known breeding pair was killed on the island of Eldey (Iceland) in June 1844. It used to winter in southern waters including the Mediterranean Sea and may have also visited the Maltese coastline. The theme of the exhibition is extinction, and apart from various and varied material pertaining to the Great Auk there will also be an emphasis on Maltese species of flora and fauna that have became extinct or are facing extinction. The exhibition includes original prints, publications, newspapers and other paraphernalia from the National Collection and a private collection. Opening hours: 09:00 – 17:00. Entrance is included in price of ticket to the museum. FEBRUARY 19-22 Archaeoacoustics conference An international multidisciplinary conference at Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa, St Julian's that welcomes academics, researchers, musicologists and non-presenting enthusiasts. Anticipated presentations include performance, discoveries, observations and science from around the world – all focused on the Archaeology of Sound.
