Events 44 maltatoday, SUNDAY, 2 FEBRUARY 2014 RE/MAX Malta recently an- nounced together with the Sig- giewi Basketball Club that they have agreed to be one of the main sponsors of the club for the next three years. RE/MAX Siggiewi Basketball club was established in 1975 and is member of the Malta Basketball Association, where its senior team presently plays in the BOV First division. The club has a basketball school for their youths which presently has over 150 youngsters aged between three years of age and 21. Speaking about the sponsorship, President of the club, Carlo Mifsud stated, "RE/MAX Malta has sup- ported the club at Our Open Day for Puttinu Cares for the last two years and we are proud to be asso- ciated with such brand for the next three years. Both parties are com- mitted to each other's success." Over the past 37 years the club has been one of the longest serv- ing teams in the first division. Since being promoted 1980, they have been in the local finals six times and won the league in 2011 amongst a number of cup wins throughout their history. Commenting about their asso- ciation with the club, Jeffrey Butti- gieg, Director of RE/MAX Malta said, "We feel that by supporting Siggiewi Basketball club we are supporting a club that believes in supporting the local community and this partnership gives us the corporate opportunity of support- ing their success both on and off the basketball court." PKF VAT study presented to Finance Minister PKF managing partner George Mangion accompanied by Tiziana Gauci recently presented a study on VAT which was compiled by PKF Malta with the collaboration of Professor Lino Sant to Finance Minister Edward Scicluna. The objective of the study was to assist MHRA in their pre-budget discus- sions with the authorities for a re- vision of the VAT tariff. Speaking at the presentation Mangion said that, "In our study we showed how members of MHRA will not reduce prices but plough back the extra revenue to renovate their assets thus creating job opportunities and improve the local product which is facing high competition." Mangion added that, "The study illustrated the positive results on value added to the industry and irrevocably showed the level of elasticity of demand given that the government reverses the 40% in- crease (from 5% to 7%) in VAT rate on accommodation." George Mangion and Tiziana Gauci with the Minister for Finance, the Hon Prof Edward Scicluna Bank of Valletta supports seminar on the implications of the EU budget for Maltese businesses THE Ministry for the Economy, Investment and Small Business is teaming up with Bank of Valletta to organise a seminar on the content of the EU budget and its implica- tions for Maltese SMEs.
