With this defeat, Naxxar will start the second phase of the season in the Relegation Pool. Hibernians will start their Cham- pionship Pool adventure on 24 points, while Naxxar Lions start the Relegation Pool on 14 points. Hibernians attacked immediate- ly from the start. Obinna Obiefule had a great scoring opportunity from close range but goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi made sure the ball stayed out of the net. Five minutes into the match Edi- son Luis dos Santos went close to scoring with his header. Naxxar gained more confidence as the math went on, but it would Hibernians that would take the lead. On the 79th minute, a cross by Andrew Cohen was intercepted by Obinna Obiefule and the latter had his header beat goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi. Hibernians were reduced to ten men on the 86th minute. Johann Bezzina brought Milan Vignjevic just outside the area and the ref- eree immediately gave Bezzina a red card for his second bookable offence. Hibernians made it 2-0 on the 90th minute. Off a pass by Timo- thy Tabone Desira, Obinna Obie- fule dribbled past the onrushing goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi and easily scored to double his team's lead. Hibernians added more misery to Naxxar in added time when Jurgen Degabriele rushed past Naxxar's goalkeeper to easily shoot into a empty net. Valletta now starts the second phase of the season with 27 points while Naxxar start with 14. Valletta had a good scoring op- portunity ten minutes into the match when Hamza Barry's header from close range was heading into the net but goalkeeper Manuel Bar- tolo performed a fantastic save. Balzan immediately replied when Jose Luis Armario Negrin's shot on goal from close range went just wide. Valletta were unlucky not to score again on the 23rd minute. Off a cross by Steve Borg, Hamza Barry was unlucky not to score when he hit the woodwork. Most of the second half was much the same as the first with goal scor- ing opportunities from both sides but great goal keeping kept the ball out of the net. Valletta managed to take the lead on the 84th minute. A powerful shot by Aziz Corr Nyang left no chance for goalkeep- er Manual Bartolo.
