maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 5 MARCH 2014 News 2 MEDIATODAY will be launching a reimagined maltatoday.com.mt in the coming days. Advertising agencies, top clients and media representatives were giv- en a sneak preview of the sleek new website on Wednesday, 26 February at the Radisson, St Julian's. The business breakfast provided guests with the opportunity to get a glimpse at the major changes that will characterise the new website. News portal editor Matthew Vella explained the editorial approach and, more importantly, that visitors were intrinsically attracted to well- written and well-researched articles. "We pride ourselves in providing better stories, entirely free of charge, and we have been the agenda-set- ters," Vella said. "For MaltaToday, content is king, and that is why we believe that jour- nalism should be issue-oriented rather than dictated by populist trends." More importantly, Vella added, MaltaToday will continue to offer stories for free. During the launch, senior dig- ital executive Daniela Vella took the guests through the salient points of the new portal, highlighting the great advantages to benefit both ad- vertisers and readers. The site is set to provide greater flexibility to advertisers. On his part, Managing Editor Sav- iour Balzan described maltatoday. com.mt as the second most popular and visited Maltese website. On behalf of himself and Managing Director Roger de Giorgio, Balzan thanked the guests for attending. "We have made a great investment in this new digital medium and we have learnt what our audience really wants, over the past three years," he said. Balzan thanked web development company Alert for having been with MaltaToday during the portal's early years. "It is now time to embark on a new project that will fortify our presence in the media and complement our printed media," he said. Balzan said the reimagined website was a reflection of MediaToday's be- lief in the future. "We have not only invested in the development and marketing of our website, but have invested in the most important asset of our com- pany: the newsroom. "We believe that the newsroom, the people who form our newsroom and our marketing and sales staff, are among the best on the island." Balzan said it was not enough for maltatoday.com.mt to be the second best: "We have every intention of be- ing the first and the best." Maltatoday.com.mt registers a daily average of 35,000 visitors, sup- ported by 40,000 followers on Face- book and 9,000 followers on Twitter.
