The recital features works from the 19th century and the first decade of the 20th century. Although it was quite late in the 20th century that the viola started achieving recognition as a solo instruments, there are nonetheless works written for the instrument before this period. Two such works are Glinka's Sonata and Enescu's Konzertstuck. The program also includes Schumann's Fantasiestucke, originally composed for clarinet and piano and Franck's Violin Sonata, both to be performed on the viola. Starts at 20:00. TONIGHT AND MARCH 21-23 Festen Stage adaptation of the acclaimed Danish film, produced by Masquerade Theatre and taking place at M Space, Msida (opposite Junior College). MARCH 29, 30; APRIL 4-6 Double Fo A 'double-bill' of plays by renowned Italian dramatist Dario Fo by Unifaun Theatre at Manoel Theatre, Valletta – featuring The Virtuous Burglar and Marcolfa. The plays will include an acclaimed cast featuring Alan Montanaro, Alan Paris, Mikhail Basmadjian, Philip Stilon, Renato Dimech, Coryse Borg, Charlotte Grech and Magda Van Kuilenburg. UNTIL MARCH 31 Maltese Maritime Graffiti Exhibition of historical graffiti at the Malta Maritime Museum, Birgu. The exhibition is based on the pioneering research work by the Museums Department former employee Joseph Muscat and his recent donation of various casts of ship graffiti to the museum. A number of salvaged original graffiti will also be displayed, including a large ship. graffito and legend dating to 1766 salvaged from a demolished residence in Zurrieq. Opening hours: 09:00 – 17:00. PUBLIC LECTURE MARCH 18 Phoenician-Punic Malta Public lecture by Prof. Anthony J. Frendo at Corinthia Palace Hotel, Attard, 18:30. Focusing on the Phoenician-Punic period of the Maltese archipelago (circa 700 BC to 218 BC) and the art, architecture, culture and trade of this community that placed Malta at the centre of the Mediterranean trading routes in the first millennium BC.
