THIS WEEK 16 MUSIC & NIGHTLIFE MARCH 30 Music and Steel Festival Music festival of rock, ska, tribal, new folk and pop featuring Tribali, Airport Impressions, The Rifffs, Red Electrick, The Crowns and The New Victorians at the Malta Shipbuilding, Marsa. The first band hits the stage at 19:30 and the last one at midnight. Entrance is free. APRIL 10-12 Aural Pleasures Concert of bawdy music from Broadway and West End musicals at St James Cavalier, Valletta at 20:00. Organised by the Wembley Store Boys. Featuring: Justin Mamo, Steffi Thake, Joseph Zammit, Tezara Camillieri, emceed by James Ryder, with a special guest appearance by Katherine Brown, and accompanied on the piano by Angele Galea. Directed by Joseph Zammit. APRIL 11-13 Rock the South Third edition of the music festival taking place at Zion Reggae Bar, Marsaskala, starting at 18:00 on April 11 and 12; 14:00 on April 13. Featuring a variety of musical genres, from rock, punk and indie to hip hop, pop, folk, acoustic singer-songwriters, ska and Dub. Apart from the bands, the event will also feature a 'Battle of the MCs'. In addition, two bands – Dripht and Troffa Ħamra y Los Mechones – will be officially launching their new CDs. MARCH 29, 30; APRIL 4-6 Double Fo A 'double-bill' of plays by renowned Italian dramatist Dario Fo by Unifaun Theatre at Manoel Theatre, Valletta – featuring The Virtuous Burglar and Marcolfa. The plays will include an acclaimed cast featuring Alan Paris, Mikhail Basmadjian, Philip Stilon, Renato Dimech, Coryse Borg, Charlotte Grech and Magda Van Kuilenburg. Marcolfa will be played by Edward Mercieca on March 29 and 30, and by Alan Montanaro on April 4-6. The production will be directed by Chris Gatt. Bookings: bookings@ teatrumanoel.com, 21246389. APRIL 11-13 Jesus Christ Superstar Performance of the popular musical at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, presented by members of the Brno City Theatre, Czech Republic. APRIL 11-13 Cittadin Vassalli Stagun Teatru Malti ('Jiena Nhobb, Inti Thobb') at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta, 20:00. Adapted by Tyrone Grima and directed by Mario Philip Azzopardi, it deals with the life of Mikiel Anton Vassalli. Through the life and works of the celebrated Maltese philosopher and linguist, comes this contemporary work on the Maltese identit y and the Maltese soul. Tickets are at €20 and €20. UNTIL MARCH 30 Eccentricks Exhibition by installation artist Emanuel Bonnici at the Upper Galleries of St James Cavalier, Valletta. Curated by Vince Briffa. UNTIL MARCH 31 Maltese Maritime Graffiti Exhibition of historical graffiti at the Malta Maritime Museum, Birgu. The exhibition is based on the pioneering research work by the Museums Department former employee Joseph Muscat and his recent donation of various casts of ship graffiti to the museum.
