maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 9 APRIL 2014 18 Events EMIRATES airline has increased its mobile presence with the launch of the Emirates App for iPad on the global App Store. Travel aficionados, and those curious about the world, can now explore over 130 Emirates destina- tions on six continents and learn more about Emirates' world-class services at a tap of a finger. Custom- ers can directly download the App or visit the App Store and search for 'Emirates'. The Emirates App for iPad also makes it even easier for Emirates customers to manage every aspect of their booking, whether on the road, in the air or in the comfort of their homes. They can book flights, select seats and meals, manage their Emirates Skywards frequent flyer accounts, check in online, and download their boarding pass di- rectly from the app, amongst other features. Personal flight details, product and service information are stored in the app, so users can view it of- fline too. "The Emirates App was designed for today's new tribe of global trav- ellers – what we term "globalistas" – who are curious about the world, are mobile and digitally connected, and expect simplicity at their finger- tips," said Patrick Brannelly, Emir- ates' Vice President of Corporate Communications. "In some markets, we already see about 20 per cent of visitors to emir- ates.com using iPads, and our cus- tomers are increasingly using their iPads and mobile devices to book and manage their travel. "The Emirates App has been de- signed to make this process even easier, faster and significantly more convenient, and many more en- hancements are already in develop- ment. We first launched The Emir- ates App in the UAE Apple store, our home market, a couple of weeks ago and the response has been tre- mendously positive. We are now working to make the App available on the iPhone and Android, and will be introducing many new features in the coming months." With The Emirates App, users can view all their future trips in one place, download their boarding pass directly to their iPad ready to print, send it to their phone via SMS or email to use it as a digital boarding pass and even register for Emirates Skywards membership through the app. It also contains handy guides for over 130 destinations. Emirates Global Ambassador Cristiano Ronaldo and Emirates Country Manager Fernando Suarez de Gongora EU-OSHA campaign calls on employers and workers to tackle work-related stress together TODAY in Brussels the Euro- pean Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) launched a two-year Europe-wide campaign: 'Healthy Workplaces Manage Stress'. The prevalence of work-related stress in Europe is startling. EU- OSHA's latest pan-European opin- ion poll revealed that 51% of work- ers find work-related stress to be common in their workplace and 4 in 10 workers think that stress is not handled well in their organisa- tion. However, together, employers and workers can successfully man- age and prevent work-related stress and psychosocial risks; the Healthy Workplaces Campaign aims to help companies do just that. The campaign launch brought together EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, László Andor; Greek Deputy Minister for Labour, Social Security and Welfare, Vasilis Keg- keroglou, representing the Greek EU Council Presidency, and Direc- tor of EU-OSHA, Dr Christa Sed- latschek. They called on Europe's enterprises (both private and pub- lic) to recognise the need to tackle work-related stress. By doing so, they will be protecting their work- ers' health and their organisations' productivity. Commissioner Andor said: 'Man- aging work-related stress is one of the cornerstones in ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of Eu- ropean workers. The Framework proposes a range of actions, such as sharing good practices, for pro- moting mental health at work. A positive working environment is not only important for enabling employees to work longer, it is al- so important to ensure that when workers do retire, they are still in good health. I am convinced that the new EU-OSHA campaign on stress and psychosocial risks at work will greatly contribute to this objective.' Dr Sedlatschek spoke about the aims of the campaign:'Despite the increasing presence and costs of workplace stress, there is still sig- nificant misunderstanding and sensitivity around it – EU-OSHA's ESENER survey found that over 40 % of employers consider psycho- social risks more difficult to man- age than 'traditional' occupational safety and health risks. With this campaign, we want to raise aware- ness of the problem and provide support to manage psychosocial risks. Work-related stress is an or- ganisational issue and should be tackled as such by employers and workers working together.' The campaign invites all organi- sations and individuals at local, national and European levels to take part. It will be coordinated at national level by EU-OSHA's na- tional focal points in more than 30 European countries, and supported by official campaign partners – pan-European and multinational organisations and the campaign media partners. The Healthy Work- places Campaign is also backed by the EU Council Presidencies, the European Parliament, the Europe- an Commission and the European social partners. 'Healthy Workplaces Manage Stress' will run for two years and will involve hundreds of organisa- tions from across Europe, involv- ing a range of activities such as training sessions, conferences and workshops, poster, film and photo competitions, quizzes, suggestion schemes, advertising campaigns and press conferences. A key activ- ity in the campaign calendar is the European Good Practice Awards, to be launched on 15 April. Appli- cations are encouraged from all Eu- ropean organisations who are suc- cessfully implementing measures to reduce and eliminate stress.
