APRIL 26 Plato's Dream Machine: Ghera The folk-pop band will be launching their debut album, 'Ghera' at the MITP Theatre, St Christopher's Street, Valletta. The band will be collaborating with local poet Adrian Grima. Tickets are at €7, €10 including album. The event and album production are being supported by the Malta Arts Fund. APRIL 26 The Beatles '1' Album Performance of the Beatles's landmark '1' album by an ensemble of Maltese musicians at SmartCity, Xghajra, as part of this year's national anniversary celebrations. Performers include Gianluca Bezzina, Ivan Grech from Wintermoods, Pawlu Borg Bonaci from Fakawi, Matthew James Borg from Red Electrick, Gaia Cauchi, Errol Sammut from Airport Impressions are amongst the 45 local musician line up. THEATRE & DANCE APRIL 17-22 The Complete History of Europe (More or Less) New edition of the comical trip through history by Malcolm Gale and Joseph Zammit – of the 'More or Less Theatre' team – taking place at St James Cavalier, Valletta, starting at 18:30. EXHIBITIONS APRIL 19-APRIL 30 Retrospective by Norbert Attard Retrospective exhibition by artist Norbert Attard at Gozo Contemporary, 11, Mongur Street, Gharb, Gozo. Art works spanning 40 years will be on display. These include Attard's early paintings, drawings and lino cuts from the formative years, limited edition prints (including the Walled Cities, Mihrab and Kimono series) and abstract paintings from the 1970s, 80s, 90s, and photographic prints and sculptures, from his most recent conceptual phase. Doors open at 20:00. EASTER EVENTS APRIL 16-20 Sejf Jinfidlek Qalbek Holy Week exhibition held at Saint Mary Band Club, 22 Misraħ Frenċ Abela, Dingli. Featuring a collection of original displays artistically created from salts, seeds and grains, along with a set of Good Friday statues and the various emblems used during the Holy Week Street Pageant taking place across the streets of Dingli. UNTIL APRIL 20 La Semana Santa The Youth Section within the Society of St. Mary and King George V Band Club Mqabba during the Holy Week days will be holding the unique exhibition for the Maltese Islands; La Semana Santa de Espana in Mqabba for the 8th consecutive year. FIREWORKS FESTIVAL APRIL 25-30 Malta International Fireworks Festival Thirteenth edition of the Malta Fireworks Festival, taking place across Marsaxlokk, Bugibba and Valletta. On April 25, the event will take place in Marsaxlokk, focusing on the International Pyromusical Competition and featuring steyrFire (Austria), Brezac artifices (France), Pyrotex Fireworx (United Kingdom), St Joseph Fireworks Factory (Zebbug, Malta). On April 26 the National Fireworks Competition will take place in Bugibba, featuring Banda Sant'Andrija Fireworks Factory (Luqa), St George's Fireworks Factory (Qormi), Santa Marija Fireworks Factory (Mgarr) and Banda l-Unjoni St Andrew's Fireworks Factory Luqa, Malta. The event will close with a grand finale at the Valletta Grand Harbour on April 30, with a pyromusical show celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Malta's accession to the European Union. More information: http:// www.maltafireworksfestival.com/ PUBLIC LECTURE APRIL 26 Museums and art galleries as critical public spaces Public lecture at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta by Darlene Clover, University of Victoria and Peter Mayo, University of Malta at 14:00. Using selected examples, this presentation will map some key 21st century socio-educational initiatives and debates in public art galleries and museums, illustrating these institutions as contested, problematic, challenging, yet often progressive, critical and creative pedagogical spaces, which, against a backdrop of tradition, political intervention, and rising social problems, mirror concerns in the field of adult education and bring new foci and practices to broaden understandings of social education, learning and action.
