Fethalla was charged of defiling and assaulting a 17-year old girl. The incident happened on Mon- day morning, near the Giovanni Curmi School in Naxxar. Prosecuting inspector Josric Mifsud told the court that the accused also attempted to inde- cently assault another girl and harassed the two girls prior to the assault. The Libyan was also charged with offending public morals. Defence law yer Dean Hili in- formed the court that the accused is currently following an educa- tional course and which comes to an end in two weeks. The defence asked the court to allow the ac- cused to finish his studies, and pledged that Fethalla would then admit to all charges. The prosecution did not object to the request but called on the court to control the time the ac- cused is allowed to go out. Magistrate Anthony Vella granted bail against a deposit of €1,000 and a personal guarantee of €4,000. The accused is not al- lowed to go out between 6pm and 8am. The case is put off until 5 May for judgment. Reckless driver handed a suspended jail term CHRIS MANGION A 22-year old youth from Zejtun was handed a suspended jail term after admitting to slightly injur- ing two people due to negligent driving. Prosecuting Inspector Carol Fabri explained how, on Sunday evening, the accused was driving a Honda Civic in a reckless and negligent manner in Birzebbugia. The youth, who was under the in- f luence of alcohol, sped through the town's streets, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into three vehicles. Hoai Thoung Do Nguyen and Mark Anthony Bonello suffered slight injuries as a result of the incident. When police officers ar- rived on the scene, the youth re- fused to give them his details, and assaulted the Sergeant. The Zejtun youth was also charged with damaging three other vehicles, disobeying police orders, being drunk in public and disturbing public peace and good order. He admitted to all charges. Defence law yer Albert Zerafa requested that the court orders a ban on the publication of the ac- cused 's name due to his line of work. The defence also asked that the accused be given time to pay any fine imposed by the court. Magistrate Antonio Vella hand- ed the youth a two-year jail term suspended for four years, sus- pended his driving license for four months, and fined him €4,000. The court also upheld the ban on the publication of the accused 's name and informed the accused that the fine could be paid over a period of three years. Inspector Carol Fabri prosecut- ed while law yer Albert Zerafa ap- peared for the accused. Thief jailed for two years PAUL Gauci Borda, 21, of Gzira, had his bail revoked and was subsequently imprisoned for two years after admitting to eight counts of theft. On 6 February, the youth stole key chains and purses from Coc- cinella in Sliema, while during the month of March he stole per- fumes from Microcopy in Msida and Me To You in Ta' Xbiex, blades and gel from K-Mart Su- permarket in Gzira and from Medica in Birkirkara, cigarettes from Tal-Qroqq Confectionary in Gzira, batteries from Bellas in Tarxien, and a digital camera and laptop from a room at the Sliema Hotel. Borda was also charged with breaching bail and relaps- ing. Defence lawyer Michael Micallef Stafrace informed the court that Borda had a drug abuse problem but was requesting to start a re- habilitation programme. Noting the accused's guilty plea, Magistrate Antonio Vella revoked the youth's bail and im- prisoned him for two years. How- ever the court recommended that he be kept at the Forensic Unit.
