maltatoday, SUNDAY, 20 APRIL 2014 THIS WEEK 30 MUSIC & NIGHTLIFE APRIL 22-26 International Spring Orchestra Festival This year's artist line up for the International Spring Orchestra Festival 2014 edition includes Brian Schembri and Lucia Micallef who will be teaming up with the European Union Chamber Orchestra, Clare Ghigo and Charlene Farrugia who will give an exquisite recital of songs by de Falla, Obradors and Kurt Weill, Argotti Ensemble led by Maria Conrad, and the versatile Cosmos Wind Ensemble. The evening concerts will be held on April 22-26 at the Manoel Theatre from 20:00 onwards, while the lunchtime concerts at Sala Isouard at 12:30. Tickets are free except for Tuesday, Friday and Saturday evening concerts. APRIL 22 Lunchtime Concerts at the Oratory of St Francis Concert by a violin and cello duo at the Oratory of St Francis, Republic Street, Valletta at 12:30. The Maltese violinist Roberta Attard and Hungarian-born Akos Kertesz (cello), will be performing music by Franz Schubert, Purcell, Corelli and the greatest Baroque composer, J.S. Bach. Entrance is at €8. For more information, contact: 79680952. APRIL 26, 27 Burlesque Inquisition The Dazzle Troupe return with another burlesque show at Nigret Night Club, Rabat at 21:00. The show – featuring comedy sketches, music and dance – will take an 'inquisition' set up, as a pair of inquisitors will be judging the performers and determining whether they will be damned or saved. Performers on the night include: Alex Vella Gregory, Joseph Zammit, Vee Stivala, What's their names Theatre, Becky D'Ugo, Miriam Calleja, Marie Claire Pellegrini, Marie Claire Camilleri, Kevin Canter, Sarah Lanzon, Rambert Attard, Joe Depasquale and Yannick Massa. APRIL 26 Plato's Dream Machine: Ghera The folk-pop band will be launching their debut album, 'Ghera' at the MITP Theatre, St Christopher's Street, Valletta. The band will be collaborating with local poet Adrian Grima. Tickets are at €7, €10 including album. The event and album production are being supported by the Malta Arts Fund. APRIL 26 The Beatles '1' Album Performance of the Beatles's landmark '1' album by an ensemble of Maltese musicians at SmartCity, Xghajra, as part of this year's national anniversary celebrations. Performers include Gianluca Bezzina, Ivan Grech from Wintermoods, Pawlu Borg Bonaci from Fakawi, Matthew James Borg from Red Electrick, Gaia Cauchi, Errol Sammut from Airport Impressions are amongst the 45 local musician line up. Doors open at 20:00. Entrance is free. THEATRE & DANCE UNTIL APRIL 22 The Complete History of Europe (More or Less) New edition of the comical trip through history by Malcolm Gale and Joseph Zammit – of the 'More or Less Theatre' team – taking place at St James Cavalier, Valletta, starting at 18:30. WHAT'S ON WHAT'S ON Sejf Jinfidlek Qalbek Holy Week exhibition held at Saint Mary Band Club, 22 Misraħ Frenċ Abela, Dingli. Featuring a collection of original displays artistically created from salts, seeds and grains, along with a set of Good Friday statues and the various emblems used during the Holy Week Street Pageant taking place across the streets of Dingli.
