Art works spanning 40 years will be on display. These include Attard's early paintings, drawings and lino cuts from the formative years, limited edition prints (including the Walled Cities, Mihrab and Kimono series) and abstract paintings from the 1970s, 80s, 90s, and photographic prints and sculptures, from his most recent conceptual phase. LITERARY EVENT APRIL 23 Lejla ta' Għaraq u Kapuċċini Kesħin Evening of readings from the latest publications by Inizjamed – 'Għaraq Xort'Oħra' and 'Klijenti Antipatiċi u Kapuċċini Kesħin' – at Il-Forn Art Gallery & Wine Bar, Birgu. Doors open at 20:00. FIREWORKS FESTIVAL APRIL 25-30 Malta International Fireworks Festival Thirteenth edition of the Malta Fireworks Festival, taking place across Marsaxlokk, Bugibba and Valletta. On April 25, the event will take place in Marsaxlokk, focusing on the International Pyromusical Competition and featuring steyrFire (Austria), Brezac artifices (France), Pyrotex Fireworx (United Kingdom), St Joseph Fireworks Factory (Zebbug, Malta). On April 26 the National Fireworks Competition will take place in Bugibba, featuring Banda Sant'Andrija Fireworks Factory (Luqa), St George's Fireworks Factory (Qormi), Santa Marija Fireworks Factory (Mgarr) and Banda l-Unjoni St Andrew's Fireworks Factory Luqa, Malta. The event will close with a grand finale at the Valletta Grand Harbour on April 30, with a pyromusical show celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Malta's accession to the European Union. More information: http:// www.maltafireworksfestival.com/ PUBLIC LECTURE APRIL 26 Museums and art galleries as critical public spaces Public lecture at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta by Darlene Clover, University of Victoria and Peter Mayo, University of Malta at 14:00. Using selected examples, this presentation will map some key 21st century socio-educational initiatives and debates in public art galleries and museums, illustrating these institutions as contested, problematic, challenging, yet often progressive, critical and creative pedagogical spaces, which, against a backdrop of tradition, political intervention, and rising social problems, mirror concerns in the field of adult education and bring new foci and practices to broaden understandings of social education, learning and action.
