British conductor Peter Stark brings the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra Concert Series to a close with an enticing programme of Brahms and Ginastera's colourful Harp concerto featuring world renowned harpist Fabrice Pierre. Featuring Soprano Dorothy Baldacchino and Ramona Zammit Formosa on piano. MAY 9, 10 Fastidju album launch Genre-bending musical act Fastidju will be launching their debut, self- titled album at St James Cavalier, Valletta at 20:00. Supported by local act Xiola. MAY 9 9th Eden Stand Up Comedy Night Comedy night at Eden Comedy Club, Eden Cinemas, St Julian's featuring Johnny Kats, Mark Maier, Ro Campbell and Laura Lexx. Doors open at 20:30. MAY 9 No Bling Show Presents: Marmalja Local hip-hop act No Bling Show will be performing alongside debuting act Marmalja at the PN Band Club, Mosta at 22:00. Entrance is free. MAY 10, 11 Bla Konfini/Borderless Dance performance at Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta at 21:00, choreographed by Mavin Khoo, in collaboration with percussionist Renzo Spiteri and artist Pierre Portelli. Dancers and musicians will include Clare Ghigo, Cliff Zammit Stevens, Florinda Camilleri and Michael Pascault. Tickets at €5 can be collected from the ticketing office of St James Cavalier, Valletta. MAY 28-JUNE 1 Flutes en Vacance I Concert at St James Cavalier, Valletta at 19:30. The series features Maltese and Scottish flautists studying at Edinburgh Napier University performing in various flute ensembles. The series is funded by the Napier Student Initiative Grant and the Malta Arts Fund. The first concert in the series features Maltese flautists Laura Cioffi and Clara Galea, known as Duo Aulos, performing a selection of works written for 2 flutes and piano with the talented pianist Gisèle Grima, an Napier University alumnus herself. All the three performers are Ian Tomlin Scholars. MAY 16, 17 Organ at the Fore! Organ concerto at Robert Samut Hall, Floriana by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra at 19:30, conducted by Joseph Vella. Programme includes Christoph W Gluck - Overture Orpheus and Eurydice; George F Handel - Organ Concerto(soloist: Hugo Agius Muscat); Joseph Vella - Ghalenija Ballet Scene; Tommaso Albinoni - Adagio in G minor (soloist: Hugo Agius Muscat Christoph) and W Gluck - Dance of the Blessed Spirits. Pianists Gisèle Grima and Erika Gialanze` will be joining forces and present a programme entirely made up for four-hands and one piano. The programme will include the Fantasie in F Minor by Schubert, Petite Suite L. 65 by Debussy and Slavonic Dance in C Minor by Dvorak. VISUAL ARTS CONTINUES BY APPOINTMENT Retrospective by Norbert Attard Retrospective exhibition by artist Norbert Attard at Gozo Contemporary, 11, Mongur Street, Gharb, Gozo. Art works spanning 40 years will be on display. These include Attard's early paintings, drawings and lino cuts from the formative years, limited edition prints (including the Walled Cities, Mihrab and Kimono series) and abstract paintings from the 1970s, 80s, 90s, and photographic prints and sculptures, from his most recent conceptual phase. MAY 17-24 Malta Design Week Now in its second iteration, Malta Design Week (MDW) has one simple premise - To celebrate, promote, and showcase the best Innovation and creativity of Maltese design. This year's edition will take place at Fort St Elmo, Valletta. MDW will provide an opportunity for local designers to flaunt their creative talent in a venue and event that suitably adapts to subject matter. LITERARY EVENT TODAY AND MAY 9 Hatem Bourial talks Hatem Bourial, a prominent Tunisian literary columnist and author of a number of books, will be at the University of Malta and at St James Cavalier to talk about the momentous developments in Tunisia after the December 2010 revolution from the perspective of the arts, as well as his own writings and research.
