Events 40 maltatoday, Sunday, 22 June 2014 emCare is the creation of a partner- ship between Vassallo Group's eld- erly care operation, CareMalta and 6PM PLC, the highly established IT solutions company in international healthcare solutions. The result is a highly motivated and dedicated fu- sion of healthcare and technology to provide continuous and real-time health and environmental monitor- ing. emCare, along with GO PLC, is also the sole provider of the govern- ment-subsidised TelecarePlus serv- ice for the Maltese Islands. The latest TelecarePlus and eCare services offer non-intrusive moni- toring allowing the 24/7 call centre to know if our client is well or needs help without even needing to press a button. There is a vast range of devices available which are aimed at peace of mind, prevention and maintaining one's independence within their home. Taking it one step further, the in- troduction of a simple-to-use mobile phone extends the service to any- where in Malta, Gozo and the rest of Europe. This phone can be control- led by the next of kin from a website to make the setup as simple as possi- ble for the user. The SOS button on the back of the phone is the one and only button that needs to be pressed in any emergency situation. Upon doing this, the next of kin will not only be contacted but will also receive an exact pin-point GPS location of where their loved one is. In many unfortunate cases a Geo- fencing setup may be required to inform the next of kin that the user has left their specified safe zone to be able to track them down and get them back home safely. emCare's vision of prevention far exceeds one's environment but is al- so extended to one's health. SCOPE is emCare's flagship solution. It has been developed with the strictest security measures to meet the high demands for today's data protec- tion as regards eHealth monitoring. The solution provides education, encourages a healthier lifestyle and enables self-care. SCOPE also fulfils the 3 pillars within a B2B environ- ment such as an elderly care home. These pillars consist of the collec- tion of vital signs, a care plan and medication management. The solu- tion has been perfected through the implementations carried out both locally and internationally to maxi- mize the potential of the care home through accountability, efficiency and accuracy while enforcing a pa- perless environment, all resulting in the very best possible care for the resident. Speaking about the company's success since its launch in 2012, Ivan Bartolo, CEO at emCare said, "Since its inception, emCare's vision has been to help people feel more independent, at ease and secure within the community. "It gives us great satisfaction to know that thanks to our mission, people from different walks of life are leading better and more fulfill- ing lives. We will continue working hard to provide the best possible service to our customers and ensure their well-being." Active Ageing is internationally an ongoing effort to improve the qualit y in the latter stages of life. Played as a knock out format, the one-on-one basketball tournament from the world of Red Bull was a great showcase for the game and gave the opportunity to the local basketball community to play in the prestigious event. In the first round Carles Teixido, Peter Shoults, David Bugeja and 16 year old Miguel Fal- zon, cruised through Anton Axiaq, Nikola Vasovic, Alberto Lorenzo and Denislav Vladimorov respec- tively. In the semifinals, Peter Shoults gave a worthy challenge to Teixido, but ultimate- ly the Spaniard went through to the final. In the other semifinal David Bugeja was too strong for the young Falzon, who still went out proudly after gaining a spot in the top four. Carles Teixido will now fly to Taiwan in September to represent Malta at the World Finals of the Red Bull King of the Rock. emCare invests in safer, more independent and a healthier lifestyle London School of Commerce launches higher education college in Malta HSBC Contact Centre offering career training in banking Carles Teixido to represent Malta in the Red Bull King of the Rock in Taiwan From left: The Vice-Chancellor at Anglia Ruskin University, Professor Michael Thorne, the Minister for Education and Employment Evarist Bartolo, the chair of the advisory committee of London School of Commerce, Lord John Tomlinson of Walsall, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, and the Group CEO of LSC, Timothy Andradi
