Events 38 maltatoday, Sunday, 6 July 2014 Valletta Heritage seminars by Frank Salt Real Estate gaining popularity A Tribute to Helen Muscat It was another packed Aula Magna at the Old University Building in Valletta, where the third of a se- ries of public lectures organized by Frank Salt Real Estate Valletta Her- itage property was held earlier in June. A 200+ audience filled the hall to listen to lectures by David Drago and Dr. Stephen C. Spiteri. Spiteri's lecture delved into the various defence solutions drawn up by the Order's military engineers throughout the course of the seven- teenth and eighteenth centuries as they strove to address this inherent weakness in Valletta's defences. The presentation focused on the development of the various fortress schemes and designs, with a par- ticular emphasis on the evolution of the plan, design and construction of Fort Manoel. David Drago's delivery related to the transformation of Valletta from a military outpost to a thriving commercial hub in the eighteenth century initiated a drive aimed at improving connections between the town, its harbour and its suburbs. Warehouses, lifts, railways and canal projects over the last two hundred years were engineered to sustain an ever increasing economic activity that manifests itself today in recently realised projects such as the Valletta Waterfront, Barrakka Lift and City Gate. The public lectures are an initiative of Frank Salt Real Estate through its Valletta Heritage Property division. Over the last decade, leading local real estate agencies have come to believe that Valletta has great po- tential to be one of best sellers as far as the real estate market goes. Frank Salt Real Estate has been at the front of this renaissance. It has not only consulted and worked to- gether with a number of key people to bring along this revival, but it has also invested heavily in a number of cultural projects, which include, amongst others, the organisation of these public lectures on matters re- lated to Valletta's glorious and end- less heritage. To find out more about forthcom- ing Valletta Heritage public lectures and to register one may do so by vis- iting www.franksalt.com.mt/vallet- taheritage or www.vallettaheritage. com 'A Night for Life – the Helen Muscat Memo- rial Concert', by so- prano Lydia Caruana was held at Teatru Manoel, which was presented by the Ac- tion for Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) together with the University of Malta's Research, Innovation and Development Trust.
