maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 16 JULY 2014 News 4 MIRIAM DALLI THE Nationalist Party has accused Sai Mizzi Liang, wife of Energy Min- ister Konrad Mizzi, of lying about her salary when she told Maltese journalists in China that she earned €3,000 a month. Following the publication of Mizzi Liang's contract in parliament on Monday, the PN said her full finan- cial package translated into €13,000 a month. Moreover, only half her salary is taxed. The PN said Mizzi Liang was also a minister's wife and the Prime Minister was defending this choice. Her financial package includes a one-time settling-in allowance payment equivalent to 42 days per diem rate, which are non-taxable. If Mizzi Liang's permanent residence is in China, then Malta Enterprise pays 10 days' travel per diem. She also receives a representation allowance equivalent to €3,621 a year; a one-time outfit allowance payment equivalent to €931.75 and an annual child allowance – per child – equivalent to €1,454. Malta Enterprise also reimburs- es: 90% of costs incurred related to education allowances, capped at €18,763; 90% of costs incurred related to medical care – claims beyond €465 are subject to Malta Enterprise's approval; 90% of costs related to dental care – claims for dental treatment is limited only to extraction of teeth, fillings and cleaning. Other expenses reimbursed in- clude ophthalmic care – 50% re- imbursement – and rental of tel- ephone service as well as 20% of the fixed line communications; a fully expensed mobile phone and a maximum of five travel tickets. Mizzi Liang's contract covers a fully expensed residence – except for linen and pillows – and an offi- cial car inclusive of fuel while serv- ing abroad. The Treasury announces the issue of €100,000,000 Malta Government Stocks subject to an over-allotment option of an additional sum of €80,000,000 as follows: PN accuses minister's wife of 'lying' over €73,000 salary 10,035 EU nationals working in Malta A total of 10,035 EU nationals were working in Malta at the end of Decem- ber 2013, according to Employment Minister Evarist Bartolo. The information was tabled in par- liament following a request made by Nationalist MP Censu Galea. According to the information, the majority of EU nationals working in Malta come from the United Kingdom (2,074) followed by Italy (1,668) and Bulgaria (859). These are followed by Hungary (645), Spain (593), Sweden (564), Romania (522), Germany (513) and Poland (316). The rest come from Austria, Bel- gium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Repub- lic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia and Slovenia. There were only two EU nation- als from Luxembourg who worked in Malta. The same information reveals that the majority of these expats, 1,631, lived in St Paul's Bay, followed by Slie- ma (1,574) and St Julian's (1,281). Four lived in Mtarfa. Other popular localities included Gzira, Msida, Mellieha, Swieqi, Mar- saskala, Birkirkara and Birzebbugia. The absolute majority lived in Malta (9,686) while 349 resided in Gozo, with the largest number, 50, choosing iz- Zebbug as their place of residence. Sai Mizzi Liang
