Events 40 maltatoday, Sunday, 10 auguSt 2014 Expect more from Science in the Cit y, European Researchers' Night on Friday 26 September from 6.0 0 p.m. till midnight in Valletta. This is the message of the organizers for the 3rd edition of what is fast becoming Malta's science and art festival. The display of state of the art research on Avionics, Space Science, the Maltese Genome, Diabetes and Brain Science will make it a memorable night which is instructive, interactive and fun for the whole family. A thrilling program of activities is being planned for this edition. They display the scope of excit- ing research being conducted at the Universit y of Malta and that may ser ve to contribute to the health and wealth of Malta in the future. This year's edition is aiming to be the best and most stirring one so far. Around 35 activities will be concentrated along Repub- lic Street, running from the re- vamped and enchanting entrance to Valletta down to St George's Square (Palace Square) The event "Science in the Cit y, European Researchers' Night" is organized by the Universit y of Malta and the Malta Chamber of Scientists together with a larger consortium of consultants, ben- eficiaries and participants. It is supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions of the Horizon 2020 Program of the EU, the Research Trust of the Uni- versit y of Malta and a number of corporate sponsors. The event may also be followed on Facebook for regular updates: w w w.facebook. com/ScienceInTheCit yMalta Gasco Energy Ltd, the leading operator responsible for stor- age and bottling of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Mal- ta, and the General Workers Union's Chemical and Energy Section signed their first col- lective agreement for Gasco Energy employees for the three year period of 2014-2017. The collective agreement covers new work practices and will provide Gasco Energy's employees with better salaries along the stipulated period. GWU Section Secretary Ja- son Deguara said, "This Col- lective Agreement was dealt in a very cordial manner and even though it was the first one being negotiated with the company, it took us a relatively short time to agree and suc- cessfully conclude the discus- sions. "I would like to thank the Management and my Union Representatives for all the collective effort in reaching this agreement. I also wish to thank the GWU Administra- tion for their backing." Gasco Energy's CEO Paul Agius Delicata said, "The fact that we managed to success- fully reach an agreement for three years with the employ- ees' representatives and the GWU augurs well for every- one concerned. "This agreement includes the introduction of new work systems that allow for further efficiencies in the way we op- erate and agreed salary in- creases over the coming three year period." Agius Delicata thanked GWU Section Secretary Jason Deguara, GWU Shop Steward Lucian Pace, and GWU As- sistant Shop Steward David Farrugia for bringing these collective discussions to a suc- cessful conclusion. The signing of the collective agreement was witnessed by Gasco Energy's Chief Finan- cial Officer Stephen Muscat, and GWU Deputy Secretary General Josef Bugeja. GO Journalist Summer Party 2014 Gasco Energy and GWU sign first collective agreement The Alfred Mizzi Foundation is supporting the Malta Historical So- ciety (MHS) programme of monthly lectures (2014-2015), which are al- ways free and open to the public. Derek Vella on behalf of the Foun- dation presented a sponsorship grant to the President of the Malta Histori- cal Society, Judge Giovanni Bonello. The presentation was held in the main hall of the Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa, just before the lecture by Caroline Tonna on 'Painters and Photographers'. Vella spoke about the extension of the Foundation's support for the ac- tivities of the Society which not only are of great academic merit, but im- portantly, provide knowledge to the many who attend them. The Malta Historical Society was founded in 1950 and since then has contributed extensively through its activities and publications to the study of the history of Malta, the diffusion of its knowledge, and the safeguarding of Maltese historical heritage. Next year, 2015, will mark the first centenary of operations for Alf Mizzi & Sons Ltd, the parent company of The Alfred Mizzi Foundation. Aside from its economic contribution to Malta over these past decades, Alf Mizzi & Sons Ltd - particularly through the Alfred Mizzi Founda- tion - have also made an important contribution to the social and cul- tural spheres. The continued support for the Malta Historical Society is a prime example of this civic commit- ment.
