The gala dinner held at Palazzo Parisio in Naxxar was attended by over 100 MIM members and a host of other distinguished guests. A special appearance at this event was Prime Minister Joseph Mus- cat, who lauded the contribution of MIM in management education and training programmes. "Dmaxepaper.com is supportive of all institute's marketing efforts and our backing ref lects a con- tinued belief in the need for MIM to uphold its mission of being the forum for the development of new business leaders within our com- munity," said Ray de Bono, Dmax- eapper.com CEO. "MIM has opted for Dmaxepa- per.com for its email marketing intelligence, particularly since this solution is geared towards the pro- fessional sector and is technically backed by the Dmax Call Centre staff. I take this opportunity of thanking the Dmaxepaper.com team in Malta and Germany for their steadfast support for MIM initiatives throughout the year," concluded MIM's General Man- ager, Omar Vella. The Malta Institute of Manage- ment (MIM) launched its 50th an- niversary celebration with a series of events, namely the publication of a commemorative book 'Born to lead'. MIM was the brainchild of a small group of young Maltese busi- ness executives at the time of Mal- ta's Independence in 1964, when the nation was making the big leap from an economy sustained by activities generated by the British services, to a new era of industri- alisation. Events Dmaxepaper.com sponsors MIM's Golden Anniversary gala dinner TransLog Awards' logo launched Translog Awards, which, for the first time ever is recognising out- standing achievements by compa- nies and individuals operating in transport and logistics in, from, or to Malta, has launched the logo for its first edition. The logo symbol is composed of a metamorphosis of the Maltese cross, each part forming a graph- ic, namely the red delta wing (air transportation); the grey bow of a ship (maritime transhipment) and blue shapes representing hills (overland transport). The logo will feature on all digital assets relating to the Awards as well as other collateral. TransLog is being organised by Support and Supply Manage- ment Group (SSM), which oper- ates offices in Malta, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, and BPC International Limited, which is responsible for sponsorship management, brand- ing, media communications, event organisation and planning. The increasing strategic impor- tance of the transport, logistics and supply chain sector has been recognised by HSBC Malta, which is supporting these awards. The large number of highly profes- sional and specialised entities op- erating within this sector, offer- ing employment for circa 25,000 employees, means that an encour- aging response to the TransLog Awards is expected. The event is supported by HSBC Bank Malta. TransLogAward categories are based on international bench- marks and values to recognise in- dustry excellence in 12 key areas: cargo operations, express courier, freight forwarding, importer/ex- porter with emerging markets, shipping agents, technology solu- tions provider, warehouse facili- ties, young achiever, CSR/green logistics, logistics & supply chain manager, transport manager and outstanding achievement. Par- ticipation in the Awards is free of charge. The deadline for par- ticipation is Thursday 28 August 2014. The awards ceremony will be held during a gala dinner on Friday 10 October, 2014. Curated by Architecture Project (AP), the prime role is given to the artefact, both as a tool matching specific require- ments, but also as a collectable in its own right. The collection is exhibited in such a way as to promote the aesthetic and his- toric qualities of the objects. Joseph Zammit Tabona started his collection in the early 1970s when his wife Susan inherited a few items from her stepfather, the late Dr.Thomas Agius Fer- rante. A consultant paediatri- cian, he had over the years, re- ceived several tools as presents, from the farming families he was visiting. This formed the basis of the collection and the start of a lifetime obsession. During the following two dec- ades the collection grew at the rhythm of the weekly visits to the Sunday market in Valletta, but also to local antique shops where old tools could still be found. The collection was regu- larly expanded, almost obses- sively, with many items that were unusual and Maltese. Each item has a story, a connection with the collector and in most cases with Malta. However, what prompted the idea of creating a museum, was the acquisition, some years back, of Pawlu Tanti 's collection, which almost doubled the initial number of items. The museum is designed around five main sections that were derived from the study of the existing collection being Pre- cision and Ornament, The Art of Building, From The Field To The Table, Measuring our World and Traditions. Each collection has its own qualities, logic, short- comings that have been curated into a contemporary assemblage which highlights the creative di- versit y and constant innovation that is hidden behind each of these objects. Tools, Trades and Traditions offers a window on past tools and trades, a place where to learn and recall memories, but also a place for intimate and si- lent discoveries.
