The first half was a very dull af- fair with both teams creating very little. Sliema had a great chance to score in the 16th minute when Andrea Pisanu's freekick hit the wood- work. Floriana finally managed to take the lead in the 50th minute when Piciollo made his way into the area to then easily lob the ball over the Sliema goalkeeper. Floriana's lead did not last too long as in the 72nd minute, off a cross by Trevor Cilia, Pisanu easily beat Floriana's goalkeeper to make the final score 1-1. Birkirkara made sure they were in command right from the start as they scored the first goal just after one minute of play. Off a pass by Paul Fenech, Leighton Grech easily beat goalkeeper Fabricio Rapchan dos Santos Morales with his shot. Birkirkara went close to scor- ing in the 11th minute, but Rafael Ledesma's effort hit the woodwork. Birkirkara doubled their lead with just two minutes remaining in the first half. Off a cross by Zach Mus- cat, Ellinton Costa Morais made no mistake with his fine header to make the score 2-0. On the 60th minute, Zebbug came close to reducing the gap when off a freekick, Mauricio Britto's effort gave a scare to goalkeeper Justin Haber. Birkirkara made it 3-0 in the 65th minute. Off a pass by Leight- on Grech to Eliandro dos Santos Gonzago, the latter then dribbled past the goalkeeper before scoring. The Third Round of the Coppa Italia continued this evening and there are more fixtures on Sunday. The biggest shock of the night was Palermo's 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Mode- na. Zdenek Zeman's Cagliari made short work of recently- relegated Catania, as Marco Sau and Farias secured a 2-0 scoreline within the opening 16 minutes. The Sardinians will face Modena in the next round. Bari thought they had got the better of Avellino, but fumbled a half-time lead for a surprise 2-1 home defeat. Varese found it much more difficult than expected against Virtus Entella, waiting until the last minute for Neto's win- ning goal. Perugia pegged Spezia back with a late strike and turned the tie around completely in extra time. In the Fourth Round, Cagliari will play Modena, Atalanta-Avellino and Pes- cara-Sassuolo.
