THIS WEEK 14 VISUAL ARTS ENDS TODAY Rosella Schembri at Villa Bologna Rosella Schembri, potter at Space for Clay is Visiting Artist at Ceramika Maltija and the Villa Bologna gift shop during the month of August. She will be on site every Wednesday (10.30- 13.00hrs) and Saturday morning (12.30-15.30hrs). Her exhibition of ceramics will be on display in the gift shop every day from Monday to Saturday 9am to 7pm. In January 2014, e Villa Bologna Gift Shop launched a monthly 'Visiting Artist Programme' . SEPTEMBER 1-7 Valletta International Visual Arts Festival International visual arts festival taking place at St James Cavalier, Valletta which will incorporate exhibitions and discussions on contemporary visual art and feature works and talks by both local and international performers. VIVA 2014 will feature work from locally and internationally reknown artists including Mieke Bal, Democracia, Austin Camilleri and JP Azzopardi amongst others. VIVA will also bring to the fore local young emerging artists through Divergent inkers - an exhibition which presents contemporary artistic practices by young Maltese artists that explore divergent thinking. is being its first edition, VIVA will also incorporate a Curatorial School. FESTIVALS AUGUST 29-31 The Delicata Wine Festival – Gozo edition e Delicata Wine Festival will continue in Nadur, Gozo. e festival will open at 19:00 and the last wines will be served at 23:30 before closing at midnight. People who wish to try the wines need only purchase a souvenir wine glass for €12.00, which is theirs to keep. A shuttle service will be available between Nadur and the Mgarr ferries. e price of a return shuttle bus ticket is €2.00 per person. UNTIL AUGUST 31 The Bieganski Art Festival A month-long festival at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, commemorating 100 years from the outbreak of WWI and celebrating art in all its forms. e festival would feature: 75 local and foreign artists with paintings depicting WWI 47 local and foreign artists, exhibiting their works, 120 paintings from the Bieganski collection Master Artist Ray Pitre 9x7 ft collection 80 sketches and painting from French trench artist Galey. UNTIL AUGUST 31 The Malta International Theatre Festival e MDC International eatre Festival which will be held at the Greek eatre within the precincts of Maria Regina Girls' Seconday in Blata l-Bajda, is being launched to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the official establishment of the Malta Drama Centre as the national performing arts school under the Department of Education. Noria Adel (Algeria), Clare Azzopardi (Malta), Antoine Cassar (Malta), Marc Delouze (France), Abdulrazak Gurnah (UK), Walid Nabhan (Malta), Bel Olid (Catalonia, Spain), Marlene Saliba (Malta), Peter Semolič (Slovenia), Giacomo Sferlazzo (Lampedusa), and Anna Szabó (Hungary). Also featuring musical interludes by Plato's Dream Machine and Kantilena. Short poetry films from Reel Festivals, and one directed by Kenneth Scicluna on two poems by Doreen Micallef and sponsored by V18, will be shown during the festival. Entrance to all events is free. MUSIC & DANCE AUGUST 27 Kelma Kelma u Nota Nota By popular demand, the Big Band Brothers will once again be teaming up with Michael Spagnol of 'Kelma Kelma' fame for a night of music which will focus on the intricacies of the Maltese language. e band will be joined by Ray Calleja and the Bezzina siblings. e concert is being organised under the patronage of President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca. AUGUST 28-SEPTEMBER 12 The Malta International Organ Festival e First Malta International Organ Festival will take place around various venues on the island. e opening concert will feature the highly acclaimed International Organist residing in Malta Wayne Marshall, on the newly restored organ of the St.Paul's Pro-Anglican Cathedral. Other famous organists, will be visiting from Italy, Sicily, Holland, Norway, Russia and Estonia. e entrance for the concerts will be free of charge.
