UNTIL SEPTEMBER 12 The Malta International Organ Festival e First Malta International Organ Festival will take place around various venues on the island. e opening concert will feature the highly acclaimed International Organist residing in Malta Wayne Marshall, on the newly restored organ of the St.Paul's Pro-Anglican Cathedral. SEPTEMBER 2-7 Malta International Musical Bands Festival International festival of bands, majorettes group, marching band, folk groups, street bands and piper bands. Featuring three parades, of half day each, in most of the important towns on the island, together with the presence of the local authorities. e following group categories are eligible to participate: bands (marching, street, pipe and drum) folk groups, flag-throwing groups, groups of majorettes, and historical groups. e festival is non-competitive. VISUAL ARTS UNTIL SEPTEMBER 7 Valletta International Visual Arts Festival International visual arts festival taking place at St James Cavalier, Valletta which will incorporate exhibitions and discussions on contemporary visual art and feature works and talks by both local and international performers. VIVA 2014 will feature work from locally and internationally reknown artists including Mieke Bal, Democracia, Austin Camilleri and JP Azzopardi amongst others. VIVA will also bring to the fore local young emerging artists through Divergent inkers - an exhibition which presents contemporary artistic practices by young Maltese artists that explore divergent thinking. is being its first edition, VIVA will also incorporate a Curatorial School. All the paintings and lino prints to be presented, created specifically for the exhibition, revolve around Catholic iconography, the conditions of living on an island, the relation to the sea, and the continental city as the islanders' utopia. SEPTEMBER 12 Qatt Ma Ninsa – Birgu Immersive theatre production in Birgu, inspired by the 'Qatt ma Ninsa' research initiative organised by the Valletta 2018 Foundation. Held around various venues in Birgu and featuring performers from the Teatru Manoel Youth eatre (TMYT), under the artistic direction of Christopher Gatt, in collaboration with Heritage Malta, the Birgu Local Council and the Birgu community. SEPTEMBER 14 The Hellre Triathlon & Relay e Hellfire Triathlon and Relay will be held at Majjistral Park in Golden Bay on Sunday at 08:00. e route is spectacular, with the 1km swim in the blue seas of Golden Bay, followed by a 20km mountain bike cycle through the Majjistral Nature Reserve and an 11km trail run around the Gnejna plateau. BOOK FESTIVAL SEPTEMBER 4-6 Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival Annual festival of Mediterranean literature featuring both local and international writers, at Msida Bastion Garden, Floriana from 20:00. Noria Adel (Algeria), Clare Azzopardi (Malta), Antoine Cassar (Malta), Marc Delouze (France), Abdulrazak Gurnah (UK), Walid Nabhan (Malta), Bel Olid (Catalonia, Spain), Marlene Saliba (Malta), Peter Semolič (Slovenia), Giacomo Sferlazzo (Lampedusa), and Anna Szabó (Hungary). Also featuring musical interludes by Plato's Dream Machine and Kantilena. Short poetry films from Reel Festivals, and one directed by Kenneth Scicluna on two poems by Doreen Micallef and sponsored by V18, will be shown during the festival.
